KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Stan State women's soccer was honored with two All-West Region selections on Wednesday as
Aliah Avila was voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team, and
Makeila Yancey earned recognition as well. The 2025 All-Region teams are selected by the region's head coaches.
Avila, a junior midfielder and a First Team All-CCAA selection, delivered one of the conference's most complete attacking seasons, finishing as the Warriors' leader in points (17), assists (7) and game-winning goals (4). She was also named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team after helping the Warriors advance to the conference semifinals. Her playmaking consistency anchored a Stan State attack that produced 31 goals on the year, while her three converted penalty kicks highlighted her reliability in critical moments. Avila is also on the ballot for United Soccer Coaches All-American honors, which will be announced this Thursday.
Yancey, a senior defender, team captain, and All-CCAA Honorable Mention choice, capped her Warrior career with a deserved all-region selection after commanding a back line that posted eight shutouts and held opponents under one goal per match across the season. She started all 20 matches and was a central piece of a defensive unit that allowed just 19 goals on 206 shots faced. Yancey also earned FloCollege/CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honors during the season, further highlighting her consistency and impact as one of the conference's top defenders.
Avila's all-region honor adds to a career that already places her among the most productive attacking players in Stan State history. She now ranks seventh all-time in career assists with 17, joining a group of the program's elite playmakers. Her impact in decisive moments is equally notable, as her 11 career game-winning goals place her in a tie for third in program history, matching the career totals of Marti Teunissen and Sadie Ortiz and trailing only all-time greats Karenee Demery and Jade Poon. Avila continues to climb the Warriors' career offensive charts, solidifying her place as one of the program's most dynamic threats.
Under the direction of head coach
Gabriel Bolton, the Warriors reached the CCAA Tournament for the sixth straight season, advancing to the semifinals for the third time in the last four years. Stan State finished third in the CCAA regular-season standings with a 6-3-2 conference record and closed the year at 11-5-4 overall, marking the program's 14th 10-win season and its second straight campaign with at least 10 victories. Both Avila and Yancey played pivotal roles in another successful season for the Warriors.
