Stan State Returns Home This Weekend to Host CPP and CSULA

Stan State Volleyball Hosts No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State returns to the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena this weekend for a pair of CCAA matches, beginning Friday, Oct. 9, at 5 p.m. against No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona on Mental Health Awareness Night. The Warriors will conclude the weekend Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. against Cal State Los Angeles for their Dig Pink match.

Flowers at the Helm
Lauren Flowers enters the weekend with a 68-58 (.540) record in her fifth season at the helm of the Stan State volleyball program and remains two victories away from 70 career wins. Flowers ranks third on the program's all-time victories list behind Christina Lore (82) and Cindy Nikkel (78), while her .540 career winning percentage remains the highest in program history.

During Flowers' tenure, Warriors have earned 16 All-CCAA honors, including 2024 CCAA Libero of the Year Gabby Rawson and 2024 CCAA Freshman of the Year Malia Tanksley. Rawson also earned AVCA All-America honors in 2024 along with First Team D2CCA All-West Region and AVCA All-West Region honors, while Ellison Weaver was named the 2024 CCAA Tournament MVP and became the first Warrior to earn AVCA National Player of the Week honors.

Flowers has guided Stan State to three CCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by the program's first CCAA Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2024, when the Warriors established a program record with 22 victories.

Weekend Recap
Stan State dropped a pair of CCAA road matches in the Bay Area last weekend, falling in four sets at San Francisco State, 25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 25-11, on Friday before dropping a three-set match at Cal State East Bay, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19, on Saturday. Maggie Olson led the Warriors with 20 kills over the two matches, recording 10 kills in each contest, while Fallon Freeman totaled 15 kills and 13 digs. Reagan Wilkerson finished the weekend with 53 assists and 16 digs, while Rylee Szyszka had 17 digs. Sydney Hoffman provided an offensive spark, combining for 11 kills while hitting .611 over the two matches. Stan State finished the weekend 0-2 to move to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the CCAA.

Warriors in Review
Stan State enters the weekend 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the CCAA. Emily Meyer leads the Warriors with 124 kills and is averaging 2.18 per set, while Olson has 105 kills and Freeman has 103. Olson is hitting .269 for the season, Freeman is hitting .270 and Lauren Hamilton is hitting .311 with 92 kills. Hoffman owns a team-best .365 hitting percentage with 33 kills in 17 sets.

Wilkerson directs the offense with 324 assists and is averaging 6.61 assists per set. Defensively, Leah Mendoza leads Stan State with 148 digs, followed by Szyszka with 142, Lauren Gonzales with 135 and Wilkerson with 120.  Gonzales leads the Warriors with 17 service aces, while Szyszka has 16. Hamilton leads Stan State at the net with 51 total blocks, including 17 solo blocks. As a team, the Warriors are averaging 11.56 kills, 10.49 assists, 15.15 digs and 1.76 blocks per set.

Olson Continues Strong Stretch
Olson continued her strong stretch during Stan State's Bay Area weekend, recording 20 kills over seven sets against San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay. She finished with 10 kills and seven digs in Friday's four-set match at San Francisco State before adding a team-high 10 kills while hitting .269 Saturday at Cal State East Bay.
Saturday marked Olson's third consecutive match with double-digit kills for the first time in her career and her fifth double-digit kill performance of the season. Through 14 matches, Olson has 105 kills and is averaging 2.06 kills per set while hitting .269. She has also totaled 34 digs and 13 total blocks this season.

Seeing Double
Stan State has received double-double performances from five Warriors this season. Wilkerson leads the way with six double-doubles and has eight in her Warrior career. Gonzales has recorded four double-doubles this season, while Ireland Avalos has three as a Warrior. Szyszka recorded her first career double-double with 11 assists and 19 digs at Cal State Dominguez Hills, while Freeman posted her first double-double as a Warrior with a career-high 23 kills and 15 digs against Cal State East Bay during the CCAA Pod Weekend in Turlock.

CCAA Leaders
Stan State ranks among the top seven in the CCAA in four team statistical categories and has two players ranked among the conference's top 10 individually. The Warriors are seventh in hitting percentage at .191, fifth in opponent hitting percentage at .192, fifth in opponent assists at 10.66 per set and seventh in opponent kills at 11.88 per set. Individually, Hamilton ranks sixth in the CCAA with a .311 hitting percentage and fifth in blocks with 51 total blocks, including 17 solo blocks, while averaging 0.91 per set. Wilkerson ranks eighth in assists with 324 and is averaging 6.61 assists per set.

Road to the CCAA Tournament
The top seven teams in the CCAA standings will advance to the 2026 CCAA Volleyball Tournament, which begins with first-round matches on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Stan State enters the week 1-4 in conference play and is tied with Chico State and UC Merced in the standings. San Francisco State, Menlo and Cal State Monterey Bay are currently tied for seventh at 3-3 in CCAA play. With plenty of conference volleyball remaining, this weekend's home matches against No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles provide the Warriors with an opportunity to gain ground in the race for a postseason berth.

Mental Health Awareness Night and Dig Pink
Friday's match against No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona will be Mental Health Awareness Night at the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. Stan State volleyball will use the evening to help raise awareness of mental health and the importance of supporting those who may be facing mental health challenges.
Saturday's match against Cal State Los Angeles will be the Warriors' annual Dig Pink match. Stan State will join volleyball programs across the country in raising awareness for breast cancer and recognizing those whose lives have been impacted by the disease.

Scouting No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona
No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona enters Friday's match 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the CCAA. The Broncos opened conference play with four consecutive victories before their first CCAA loss and enter the week having dropped their last two matches. Cal Poly Pomona is hitting .243 as a team and ranks third in the CCAA in hitting percentage.

Sarah Ybarra leads the Broncos and the CCAA with 224 kills and is averaging a conference-best 4.15 kills per set. Elle Walker has 155 kills and ranks 10th in the CCAA at 3.16 per set, while Alexia Athans ranks second in the conference with a .396 hitting percentage. Lexi Zammit ranks second in the CCAA with 513 assists and averages 9.50 per set. Ybarra also ranks third in service aces at 0.46 per set and leads the conference in points at 4.88 per set.

Stan State-Cal Poly Pomona Series
Cal Poly Pomona leads the all-time series with Stan State 25-7 since 2007, but the Warriors enter Friday's match having won the most recent meeting. Stan State rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat the Broncos in five sets, 13-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-7, on Nov. 15, 2025, in Pomona. The victory snapped an eight-match losing streak to Cal Poly Pomona and was Stan State's first win in the series since 2019.

Meyer led the comeback in Pomona with 14 kills while hitting .400 and added eight digs. Malia Tanksley finished with 12 kills and six block assists, while Hoffman had eight kills without an error on 18 attempts for a .444 hitting percentage and added six total blocks. Shaelyn Pruiett recorded 40 assists and nine digs, while Mendoza finished with a team-high 19 digs.

Earlier in the 2025 season, Cal Poly Pomona defeated Stan State in four sets in Turlock. Meyer had nine kills and hit .348, Hoffman finished with eight kills while hitting .429 and Olson had seven kills while hitting .333 in two sets. Gonzales recorded four of Stan State's seven service aces, while Wilkerson added two.

Friday will be the first meeting between the teams since Stan State's five-set comeback victory last November. The Warriors are 4-13 at home against the Broncos since 2007, with their most recent home victory coming in 2016 when Stan State swept Cal Poly Pomona.

Scouting Cal State Los Angeles
Cal State Los Angeles enters the week 4-11 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA. The Golden Eagles opened conference play with victories over Menlo and Cal State Monterey Bay before dropping road matches at Cal State East Bay and San Francisco State. Cal State LA enters the week coming off a conference victory and is currently fifth in the CCAA standings.

Samarah DaCoud leads the Golden Eagles offensively and ranks fourth in the CCAA with 211 kills and 3.64 kills per set. Teegan Charapata ranks sixth in the conference in service aces at 0.40 per set. Isabella Barrios ranks third in the CCAA in blocks, averaging 0.98 per set.

Stan State-Cal State Los Angeles Series
Cal State Los Angeles leads the all-time series with Stan State 25-5 since 2007, but the Warriors enter Saturday's match having won three of the last four meetings. Stan State won the most recent meeting in five sets, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Golden Eagles 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-11 on Nov. 14, 2025, in Los Angeles.

In that victory, Freeman had six kills without an error on 13 attempts to hit .462 and added three block assists. Hamilton finished with nine total blocks, including eight block assists, while Wilkerson had 12 assists and 14 digs. Mendoza added 15 digs. As a team, Stan State hit .250 with 60 kills while holding Cal State Los Angeles to a .133 hitting percentage.

Cal State Los Angeles won the first meeting of the 2025 season in four sets in Turlock. Freeman had five kills without an error on 14 attempts and hit .357, while Hamilton finished with three kills on six attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Gonzales recorded two service aces, and Mendoza had a team-high 12 digs.

Stan State won both meetings in 2024, including a five-set victory in Los Angeles during the regular season and a four-set victory, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-17, in the CCAA Tournament championship match in Pomona to capture the program's first CCAA Tournament title.  Stan State is 1-13 at home against Cal State Los Angeles since 2007. The Warriors' lone home victory in the series came in 2008, when Stan State defeated the Golden Eagles in five sets.

CCAA Sports on FloCollege
Both of Stan State's matches this weekend will be streamed live on FloCollege. Fans can watch the Warriors host No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, Oct. 9, at 5 p.m. and Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. Levi Flores and Marie Stucker will be on the call for both matches from the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. Following this weekend's home matches against No. 10 Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles, Stan State returns to the road for a pair of CCAA matches. The Warriors will face Menlo College on Friday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. in Atherton before traveling to Seaside to take on Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m.

Stan State will then travel to San Bernardino for its second CCAA Pod Weekend of the season. The Warriors will face No. 12 Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m. before taking on Cal State Los Angeles on Friday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. Both matches will be played at Coussoulis Arena.
