Bascom Tied for 15th, Warriors 11th After Two Rounds at CSUSM Fujikura Invitational

VISTA, Calif. – Stan State men's golf sits in 11th place after two rounds at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational, held Monday at Shadowridge Golf Club in Vista, Calif. The Warriors are led by Owen Bascom, who is tied for 15th at even-par 144 heading into the final round.

The Warriors carded rounds of 301 and 289 for a 36-hole total of 590 (+14) on the 7,002-yard, par-72 layout. The 13-team field features several regional opponents competing over three rounds of stroke play.
Individually, Bascom posted rounds of 75 and 69, bouncing back with a strong 3-under effort in the second round to climb the leaderboard.

At the top of the individual leaderboard, Liam Weaver of Cal State San Marcos leads the tournament at 6-under-par 138. He is followed by Marco Lin of CSU San Bernardino and Troy Song of CSU Dominguez Hills, who are tied for second at 4-under-par 140. Jonathan Chen of Dominican (CA) sits fifth at 3-under-par 141.

Also contributing for the Warriors were Carson Diaz, who is tied for 28th at 146 (+2) after rounds of 76 and 70, and Riley Kirk, tied for 32nd at 147 (+3) with rounds of 73 and 74. Ricky Sullivan sits 62nd at 153 (+9) after posting rounds of 77 and 76, while Chase Bird is tied for 64th at 155 (+11) with scores of 79 and 76. Competing as an individual, Jesse Verheul is 74th at 162 (+18) after rounds of 80 and 82.

At the top of the team leaderboard, Cal State San Marcos leads the tournament at 570 (-6), followed by CSU Dominguez Hills at 576 (E) and CSU San Bernardino at 577 (+1). Chico State and Western Washington are tied for fourth at 579 (+3).

FIELD NOTES
The 13-team field at the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational includes Chico State, CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Monterey Bay, CSU San Bernardino, Cal State San Marcos, Dominican (CA), Jessup, Simon Fraser, Stan State, UT Tyler, Vanguard, Westmont and Western Washington, with several programs ranked or receiving regional consideration.

UP NEXT: The Warriors wrap up play Tuesday with the third and final round of the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational, teeing off at 8:30 a.m. at Shadowridge Golf Club. They will be paried up with golfers from the University of Texas at Tylr and Westmont College on holes 11, 12, 14, and 15 while Verheul will start on hole 18.  Stan State's next tournament will be the Visit Stockton DII Invitational on Monday, Feb. 23, with an 8 a.m. start at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif. The course will also serve as the site of the CCAA Championships and the NCAA Division II Super West/South Central Regional later this spring in April and May.
