MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The Stan State men's golf team sits in second place out of 12 teams after two rounds of the Wildcat Classic in Marysville, posting rounds of 276 and 271 for a 29-under-par total of 547 at the par-72 Peach Tree Country Club. The Warriors' second-round 271 set a new program record for the lowest team round, breaking the previous mark of 273. Stan State's opening-round 276 is tied for the third-lowest team round in program history.  The final round will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.

Riley Kirk leads the Warriors, sitting in a tie for third at 9-under 135 after rounds of 67-68. Kirk has recorded 12 birdies through two rounds.

Carson Diaz is tied for ninth at 7-under 137 (71-66), with 10 birdies, including an eagle on the par-5 sixth hole in the second round. His second-round 66 is tied for the sixth-lowest individual round in Stan State men's golf history.

Mason Montgomery is tied for 11th at 6-under 138 (68-70) with 13 birdies.

Ryan Giardino is tied for 14th at 5-under 139 (70-69) with nine birdies, while Ricky Sullivan is tied for 18th at 4-under 140 (72-68) with seven birdies.

Competing as an individual, Mitchell Katz is tied for 53rd at 4-over 148 (73-75) and has recorded five birdies.

No. 23 Chico State leads the team standings at 37-under 539, followed by Stan State at 29-under 547. No. 25 Cal State San Marcos is third at 27-under 555, while receiving-votes Cal State Monterey Bay is fourth at 20-under 556 and Cal State East Bay is tied for fifth at 15-under 561.

Stan State will be paired with Chico State and Cal State San Marcos tomorrow morning.  The three teams will start on holes one through three while Katz will begin the final round on hole 18 with golfers from Southern Oregon and Jessup.

Stan State concludes the Wildcat Classic Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start at Peach Tree Country Club in Marysville. The Warriors return to action Oct. 5–6 at the RCA Electric Fall Invitational in Monterey, Calif., and Oct. 12–13 at the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif. 

The Warriors begin their spring season Feb. 15–16 at the CSUDH John Johnson Toro Classic in Indio, Calif., and will compete in four additional events before hosting the 52nd Hanny Stanislaus Invitational April 12–13 at Turlock Golf & Country Club. The Warriors will then compete in the CCAA Championship April 19–21 in Lompoc, Calif. NCAA regional and national championships are scheduled for May.
