MARYSVILLE, Calif. — The Stan State men's golf team finished second at the Wildcat Classic with a school-record three-round score of 830 (276-271-283), finishing 34-under-par at the par-72 Peach Tree Country Club.

The Warriors' second-round 271 set a new program record for the lowest team round, breaking the previous mark of 273. Stan State's opening-round 276 is tied for the third-lowest team round in program history.

Chico State's Vineet Vallamsetty won medalist honors at 14-under 202, followed by Derek Lekkerkerk of Cal State Monterey Bay at 12-under 204 and Chico State's Ty Weaver at 11-under 205.

Mason Montgomery led the Warriors individually, finishing sixth at 9-under 207 after rounds of 68-70-69. Montgomery recorded 17 birdies through three rounds. His three-round score is tied for the sixth-lowest individual tournament score in Stan State history with Erik Justesen, Joseph Stewart and Trevor Blair.

Riley Kirk finished tied for 11th at 7-under 209 (67-68-74), recording 15 birdies.  Carson Diaz, Ricky Sullivan and Ryan Giardino each tied for 13th at 6-under 210. Diaz carded rounds of 71-66-73 with 13 birdies and one eagle, while Sullivan shot 72-68-70 with 12 birdies and Giardino posted rounds of 70-69-71 with 12 birdies.

Competing as an individual, Mitchell Katz finished tied for 58th at 10-over 226 (73-75-78) with five birdies.

No. 23 Chico State won the team title at 42-under 822. Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay, both receiving votes in the preseason national poll, tied for third at 28-under 836, while No. 25 Cal State San Marcos finished fifth at 25-under 843.

Stan State returns to action Oct. 5–6 at the RCA Electric Fall Invitational in Monterey, Calif., and Oct. 12–13 at the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif.

The Warriors open their spring season Feb. 15–16 at the CSUDH John Johnson Toro Classic in Indio, Calif., and will compete in four additional events before hosting the 52nd Hanny Stanislaus Invitational April 12–13 at Turlock Golf & Country Club. Stan State will then compete in the CCAA Championship April 19–21 in Lompoc, Calif. NCAA regional and national championships are scheduled for May.
