POMONA --- Facing one of the top teams in the conference, on the road, is no small task for the youthful Warrior team. Trouble is, the trip only gets tougher after Friday's 3-0 loss at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona handled the visiting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors, 30-23, 30-14, 30-15, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's volleyball match Friday night at Darlene May Gym.

The service-receiving game failed CSUS again as Pomona tallied 19 service aces and Vanessa Williams had 11 kills to lead CPP as the Broncos improved to 12-4 overall and 5-3 in the CCAA. The Warriors are 5-14, 1-7 in league action.

Debbie Vander Schaaf had seven kills and seven digs to lead the Warriors. Megan Loghry added five kills. Ashley Hullen and Megan Britton each had eight digs.

The Broncos grabbed the lead in the opening game. They took a 7-6 lead and never let go. The closest the Warriors would get was at 14-12, but kills by Williams and Samantha Casey  put the Broncos ahead 16-12. Three times the Warriors cut the lead to three, but they couldn't get any closer. A four-point run led by a pair of aces by Rafaela Rosa  put the Broncos out front 29-20 and they would go on to win 30-23.

In Game 2, a Antoinette Kathol kill, Samantha Casey ace and Jenna Young kill put the Broncos ahead 9-5 and they wouldn't be threatened. Later, with Young serving, the Broncos put together a stretch of five straight points to pad the lead from 15-9 to 20-9. Another 5-0 run featuring a pair of kills by Young and a kill by Davis helped put the Broncos ahead 28-14, before Kathol added a block and an ace for the game-winner. Game 3 opened with a 7-0 Broncos' run.

Kathol added five block assists and Davis and MB Brittany Harkey each had four block assists.

Cal State Stanislaus will have a short drive for Saturday's match, however, the Warriors' opponent will be CCAA's top team, Cal State San Bernardino, ranked No. 2 in the latest AVCA Top 25. The Broncos defeated Chico State 3-0 Friday to improve to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in the CCAA.
