Cal Poly pulls away late to beat Warriors

SAN LUIS OBISPO --- Rick Cardoso had 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Warriors but Cal State Stanislaus came up just short in losing to Cal Poly 97-89 in an exhibition contest on Saturday.

The Warriors battled and stayed close with the Mustangs throughout the game until Cal Poly pulled away late in the second half. CSU Stanislaus actually tied the game with 16:29 left after a three-pointer by Richard Maraker. Cal Poly went on a 20-5 run to take control.

Calvin Westbrook and Heath Colvin each added 17 points as the Warriors shot 43.8 percent from the field. CSUS also played evenly with the Mustangs in rebounding, each with 43.

Cal Poly had six players in double-figures in scoring with Dreshawn Vance netting 17 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Lorenzo Keeler came off the bench to score 16 for the Mustangs.

Cal State Stanislaus will play another Division I program in an exhibition on Monday when the Warriors visit Santa Clara at 7 p.m.
