LA JOLLA -- UC San Diego slowed down the Warrior offense with its half-court style of play and held off a surging Cal State Stanislaus team for a 63-60 CCAA men's basketball win Friday night at the RIMAC Arena.

UCSD's Kelvin Kim nailed three of four free throws in the final seconds of the game to help his team hang on for the win and improved to 1-0 in the CCAA and 1-2 overall. Cal State Stanislaus came up short and dropped to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in league.

It was already the third time this year that Stanislaus lost a game by three-points or less.

Duane Jone's three-point attempt as time expired front-rimmed the basket after Stanislaus rallied from down 13 points to make it a close game in the final minutes. Jones had nailed a trey with 57 seconds left to pulled the team within two, 60-58, and a UCSD free throw later, the Warriors had a chance to get even closer.

However, Jones missed a layup with 18 seconds left and commits a foul to send Kim to the line. He nailed one of two from the foul line before a J.R. Cassita layup to cut the UCSD lead to 61-60 with 8.5 ticks left. Trying to get another offensive possession, the Warriors fouled Kim again and this time the Triton junior guard nailed both free throws for the game's final margin.

Heath Colvin and Rick Cardoso each had 15 points to lead the Warriors. Calvin Westbrook scored 11 and Cassita finished with 10. The Warriors shot 39.1 percent for the game and was out-rebounded 36-28.

The Tritons were led by Kim who finished with 14 points. Clint Allard also had 14 points and pulled 10 boards.
UC San Diego led the entire game and had a 13-point advantage, but the Warriors used an 11-2 run inside the 10-minute mark in the second half to cut the lead to four points at 51-47. Moments later, \Cardoso converted on a three-point play to cut the lead to 52-50 with about six minutes left to play.

Next up for the Warriors is a road trip back to the Pacific Northwest as they will take on the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, Dec. 8 in Tacoma, Wash.
