TURLOCK --- The Cal State Stanislaus women's volleyball turned in a great effort facing one of the best in the nation but No. 18 Cal State L.A. proved to be too strong as the Golden Eagles defeated the Warriors in straight sets, 30-28, 30-19, 30-25, Friday night at Warrior Arena.

Four Cal State L.A. players had nine or more kills with Bianca Gorospe leading the way with 12. Lindsay Laakso had 11 kills and 14 digs and Airess Padda added 11 kills for the Golden Eagles as they improved to 3-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (7-3 overall).

Debbie Vander Schaaf had 13 kills to lead the Warriors. Megan Britton led all players with 16 digs and Caitlin Steffeck had six total blocks as she continues to move up the CSUS career leaders list. Megan Loghry also contributed with six kills, three aces and a solo block for 10 of the Warriors' 45 offensive points.

"I was very pleased with our team's performance tonight. We show a lot of guts tonight and did some things that we had worked on against a very good team," Warrior head coach Chris Difani said. "I was very happy how Debbie played," Difani said. "Steffeck really came through tonight with her blocking."

The Warriors toyed with the possibility of a game-one win with a lead as late as 25-24, but five straight CSULA points turned the tides as the visitors rallied for the win. CSUS did not hit particular well in game two in losing 30-19 but again put up a good fight in the third set in front of 174 supportive fans. The Warriors led halfway through game three at 15-13, but a strong LA attack turned a close game in favor of the Golden Eagles. Cal State L.A. did not have a lead larger than five points in the third and decisive game.

Cal State Stanislaus will face another top 20 team on Saturday when No. 16 UC San Diego visits at 7 p.m.
