CHICO — The Warriors snapped a six-game losing skid and beat rival Chico State for the second time this season in a 81-70 win in Acker Gym Thursday night.
Heath Colvin led Cal State Stanislaus with career-high 27 points.
It was also the Warriors' first road victory in 10 attempts this season as they improved to 4-14 overall and 3-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Chico State, which has now lost to Cal State Stanislaus for the fifth straight time, dropped to 5-13, 1-10 in the CCAA.
Colvin scored 15 of his 27 points in the second half and finished with 11 of 12 free throws. He was also 8 for 15 from the field.
Rick Cardoso added 15 points and
J.R. Cassita chipped in 12.
Duane Jones, who was held scoreless, had six rebounds and seven assists.
Chico State rolled out to an early 7-2 lead but the Warriors bounced back for a close contest. Stanislaus used a 13-4 run in the final minutes of the first half to open a 39-30 advantage at the break.
The Wildcats managed to make a game of it early in the second half after an Andrew Ferrin layup at 15:05 pulled Chico within one at 42-41.
Richard Maraker then hit back-to-back triples for Stanislaus and sparked the Warriors.
Cal State Stanislaus maintained a double-digit lead from that point on and led by as many as 14 points with 2:19 to play.
Stanislaus, the best free throw shooting team in the conference, made 81.5 percent of its attempts from the foul line, making 22 of 27.
Chico State got 20 points from Darroll Phillips and 15 from Shane Bradley.
