TURLOCK — The younger Warriors wanted to give senior Megan Loghry a going-away present on senior night — and that came in the form of a major win as Cal State Stanislaus upset No. 13 Cal State L.A. in volleyball Saturday night.

Sophomore Jen Gee had 14 kills and 10 digs to lead a cast of Warrior stars on Senior Night as Cal State Stanislaus defeated Cal State L.A. in five, 25-17, 25-19, 12-25, 25-27, 15-9. The victory completes the weekend sweep for Stanislaus as the Warriors beat Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night.

Cal State Stanislaus is now 6-20 overall and 3-13 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State L.A. dropped its second road loss this weekend and is now 18-5 and 11-5 in the CCAA.

"This was a great senior night present from my teammates. I couldn't have asked for more," said Loghry, the only senior on the team. She finished the evening with 10 kills and six total blocks.

Freshman Angela Ohland, who came up big in the fifth and decisive set, finished with 11 kills and five total blocks with three solos. Lianne Vicchio another freshman, had 10 kills and 12 digs, while sophomores Amanda Pielstick (15 digs), Nicki Brown (45 assists, 9 digs, 6 kills), Megan Britton (13 digs, 2 aces, 2 kills) all played key parts in the upset.

"During the timeouts in the huddle, the team kept saying 'lets do this for Megan'," CSUS head coach Chris Lore said. "They really wanted to do this for her."

This was the second time in three years that the Warriors had upset Cal State L.A. towards the end of the season. CSUS beat L.A. in straight sets in 2006 when the Golden Eagles were ranked No. 23.

"The team came out and was relaxed tonight," Lore said. "We have been building up for this all season long. I saw this team improve each and every time out."

With high-intensity and strong offensive play, the Warriors shocked L.A. in the first two sets and rolled to easy wins 25-17 and 25-19. The Warriors were 26 for 71 with seven errors (.268) in the first two sets combined. Ohland, Loghry and Gee each had six kills in the quick start that had the crowd of just over 200 on their feet.

After the 10-minute intermission, Cal State L.A. responded in a big way and dominated set No. 3, 24-12 as the 6-foot-4 Brazilian import Ursula Vieira took control, and with the help of Lindsay Laakso, carried the Golden Eagles back in the match. Vieira and Laakso each had four kills and Mary Laupepa had three in the rally.

After trailing for most of the fourth, the Warriors tied the match at 16-16 and again at 24-24 to set up a thrilling finish. With the score at 25-25, L.A.'s Laupepa put away a kill for set-point and force an attacking error by CSUS on the ensuing sequence to force a fifth set.

The Warriors, however, would not let Lore and Loghry down as they took off to an 8-2 lead that was capped by an Ohland block and kill for two consecutive points. Ohland would put together the set of her season with three kills, two solo blocks and an assisted block to help Stanislaus complete the upset.

"This was a great win and I am really proud of the team effort," Lore said. "They have worked hard for this."

Laakso finished with 16 kills and 12 digs and Gabriela Bulawczyk had 15 kills and 13 digs to lead Cal State L.A. Vieira finished with 12 kills but had 10 errors on 31 attempts.

The Warriors will complete its home season on Tuesday when they host Chico State at 7 p.m.
