TURLOCK -- The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors split their Friday doubleheader against No. 8 UC San Diego at Warrior Softball Field by scores of 4-0 and 4-9.
The Split moves the Warriors to a 7-7 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and a 10-14 record overall. The No. 8 Tritons now move to a 20-8 overall record and 10-6 in the CCAA.
In game one, Melissa Ward walked four straight batters to give the Warriors their lead in the first inning to give the Warrior a 1-0 lead. The Warriors scored two more runs in the bottom of the third and one in the sixth to give themselves a 4-0 lead over the Tritons.
Meghan Franksen was 2-3 with an RBI and
Jessica Gaumnitz held the Tritons to seven scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
In game two, The Tritons took a 2-0 after scoring single runs in the first and the third inning. The Warriors answered back in the bottom of the third, cutting the Triton lead in half. In the sixth the Warriors took a 4-2 lead by scoring three, two of which were unearned. In the top of the seventh, the Tritons had six straight hits and scored seven earned runs to give them a lead over the Warriors of 9-4. Triton's pitcher, Lauren Chastain, ended the game in the bottom of the seventh with three strikeouts.
The Warriors continue the series against UC San Diego on Saturday. Game one begins at 11 a.m. at Warrior Softball Field
