TURLOCK -- The Warriors split another doubleheader against No. 8 UC San Diego, Saturday, with scores of 4-3 and 7-4 at Warrior Softball Field.
The Warriors now have an overall record of 11-15 and have an 8-8 record in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Tritons move to a 21-9 record overall and an 11-7 record in the CCAA.
Game one
Jessica Gaumnitz of Cal State Stanislaus and Melissa Ward of UC San Diego threw six scoreless innings. In the top of the seventh the Tritons scored three runs to take the lead over the Warriors. The Warriors answered back by scoring three runs to send the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth inning Gaumnitz, scored to end the game at 4-3.
Alyssa Guzman was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. The win moves Gaumnitz to a 7-4 record. She has 52 strikeouts this season.
In Game two the Warriors took a quick lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. The Warriors gained another two runs with one in the second inning and one in the fourth. Warriors pitcher
Jennifer Arnold held the Tritons from scoring until the top of the sixth inning, where the Tritons put five runs on the board, taking the lead over the Warriors 5-4. In the seventh, UC San Diego scored four more runs to increase their lead to three runs. The Warriors were unable to answer back in the bottom of the seventh, therefore ending the game in a 7-4 loss to the No. 8 Tritons.
The Warriors play next in Rohnert Park where they will be taking on the Sonoma State Seawolves in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, and another doubleheader beginning at noon on Saturday. The Warriors return to Turlock March 28-30, where they are hosting their annual Tournament of Champions presented by Mizuno at Pedretti Park.
