POMONA — It's not easy to win in the California Collegiate Athletic Association — especially on the road. Some of the younger Warriors found that out on Friday as the No. 24-ranked Cal Poly Pomona defeated Cal State Stanislaus in straight sets.

The Warriors, however, did put up a great fight and battled before dropping to the Broncos, 25-14, 27-25, 25-22. Cal State Stanislaus, with a five-match losing streak, dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in the CCAA. Pomona is 6-2, 3-0 CCAA.

There are currently four CCAA teams ranked in the AVCA Top 25 with a fifth receiving votes and recently dropped out of the poll. The Warriors will face a ranked opponent in back-to-back nights when they take on No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino Saturday night.

After Cal Poly Pomona easily took set one 25-14 Friday night, the Warriors responded back and pushed the second set to 27-25. After tying the set at 15-15 on a service error, Stanislaus rolled off six of the next seven points for a 21-16 lead. Amanda Pielstick had two aces and Jen Gee recorded one of her five kills during the stretch.

In the third, Pomona jumped out to a 9-2 lead before the Warriors crawled back and got as close as 22-21. CPP, however, managed to hold on for the sweep.

Lianne Vicchio led the Warriors with 10 kills and 11 digs with Karly Penton chipping in six kills. Penton and Megan Loghry each had three block-assists. Nicki Brown had 22 assists.

The service game, which had been a weakness lately for the team, improved for the Warriors Friday night as they recorded just six errors.

Anne-Marie Hofmans led the Broncos with nine kills and 11 digs. The Broncos had a total of 22 block-assists.
