1/10/2009 9:55:32 PM

TURLOCK -- The hole was too deep to climb out of for the Warriors Saturday night. A late rally was staved off by the Lumberjacks, thanks in part to timely free throw shooting, as they dropped the Warriors, 82-74, at Warrior Arena.

With the loss, the Warriors continue as the only winless team in California Collegiate Athletic Association play with an 0-6 mark. They are now 4-7 overall, having lost seven of their last eight games dating back to Nov. 29. Humboldt State improves to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in the CCAA. The Lumberjacks have won all six meetings between the two teams since 1998, including all five CCAA matchups since the Lumberjacks joined the conference for the 2006-07 season.

Senior Benny Koochoie led all scorers with a career-high 24 points. He added two rebounds and two steals before fouling out with one minute left to play in the game. Junior Chris Teevan also set a career high in points with 12 and tied a career high in rebounds with four, and senior Chris Hayes chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.

Trailing by double digits for nearly then entire second half, the Warriors woke up with 4:27 left to play in the game and went on an 12-3 run to knock the deficit down to nine with just 1:03 left on the clock. The Warriors began sending Humboldt State to the free throw line, but the Lumberjacks took advantage and went 10-for-16 from the line in the final three minutes to hold on for the win.

The 74 points for the Warriors are the most points the team has scored all season in a CCAA game, surpassing their previous high of 68 points, set on two occassions. The Warriors' 0-6 record in CCAA games is their worst conference start since 2004-05 when the team started conference play 0-9.

The Lumberjacks were led by Zac Tiedeman, who went 6-for-7 from the field, including a 4-for-5 mark from 3-point land, to notch 18 points. Kyle Baxter had 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Lumberjacks. Owen Newman and Mike Kehrig had 10 points apiece.

The Warriors shot 50 percent for only the second time this season in the loss after shooting a 55.9 percent clip in the second half alone.. The Lumberjacks shot 48.3 percent. The Warriors were outrebounded for the eighth time this season, getting edged 36-34 in the category. They also had more turnovers than Humboldt State, giving up the ball 19 times to the Lumberjacks' 13.

The Warriors will continue their five-game homestand at 7:30 p.m. Friday with a game against Cal State L.A.
