TURLOCK -- The Warriors could not recover from a slow start and sloppy first half as the Sonoma State Seawolves controlled every aspect of the game from tip-off to the final buzzer in a 98-57 game at Warrior Arena Friday night
Cal State Stanislaus was held scoreless until 5 minutes, 57 seconds into the game as the Seawolves opened the game with an 18-2 run. They would follow that with a 17-0 run later in the first half that put them up 37-7 with 4:48 to play until halftime.
The loss is the Warriors' sixth in their last seven games and drops their record to 4-6 overall and 0-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Seawolves win their second consecutive game and move to .500 overall at 6-6 and 2-3 in the CCAA.
Casey Cutts had his second consecutive double-digit scoring game Friday with 11 points.
Michael Dyson had eight points and six rebounds.
The Seawolves were led Friday by two players who scored 19 points and had at least five rebounds coming off the bench. Casey McRoberts had 19 points and six rebounds and Keith Garner added 19 with five boards. Steven Pratt was the only Sonoma State starter to score in double digits, notching 11 points and six rebounds.
The Warriors were outrebounded once again, falling 41-33 in the category. They were also outshot by Sonoma State, 56.1 percent to 35.1 percent.
Sonoma State led 46-14 at the half shooting at a 56.3 clip to the Warriors' 20.0 percent. Stanislaus also had 20 turnovers in the first half and was just 5-for-25 from the floor.
The 41-point discrepancy is the largest margin of defeat to a Division II team since the Warriors joined the CCAA for the 1998-99 season. The Warriors lost to Humboldt State by 33, 118-85, here in Turlock on Feb. 22, 2008.
The Warriors will continue their five-game homestand at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with a game against CCAA opponent Humboldt State.
