TURLOCK — Through thick and thin this season, junior forward Lisa Garcia has continuously been the spark of the offense for the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team.

Garcia was on fire Friday afternoon, scoring two goals to lead the Warriors to a 2-0 victory over visiting San Francisco State at Warrior Stadium. The win is the Warriors' second straight at home and it moves their record back to .500 at 6-6 overall and 2-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Gators fall to 3-6-2 overall and 1-5-1 in CCAA play.

"Lisa made a great run and Apryl found her with a terrific pass," CSUS head coach Gabriel Bolton said.

Just halfway through the season, Garcia is having one of the greatest offensive seasons ever played at Cal State Stanislaus. The two goals were Garcia's sixth and seventh of the season, tying her for fourth all-time on the Cal State Stanislaus single-season goals list. Her 16 points this season (seven goals, two assists) are tied for eighth all-time on the Warriors' single season list.

San Francisco State and the Warriors played to a scoreless tie in an uneventful first half that only saw four shots taken by the Warriors and a total of three corner kicks between the two teams. Possession was a back-and-forth battle that neither team came to dominate in the first 45 minutes.

"We battled very hard in the first half and really played good soccer in the second half," Bolton said. "We were very aggressive offensively which has been something we have been concentrating on all week."

In the second half, the Warriors came out and immediately had the ball on their offensive side of the field, and that is where it stayed for most of the final half. San Francisco State took two shots in the second half with one on goal.

Garcia notched her first goal in the 54th minute. Apryl Whitney sent a quick, diagonal pass from the top of the goalkeeper box across to a charging Garcia, who put a foot on the ball and deflected it in.

Garcia scored again in the waning minutes of the game. With 1 minute, 15 seconds on the clock, Whitney sprinted with the ball down the field and took a quick shot. San Francisco State goalkeeper Rachel Lauderdale initially made the save on Whitney's shot, but she lost control of the ball and dropped it. Garcia was there to gather the loose ball and put it in to seal the victory.

"We were solid for 90 minutes. I liked our concentration and focus," Bolton added.

The Warriors will continue their homestand at 11:30 a.m. Sunday when they host Cal State Monterey Bay.
