TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team continues its winning ways at home as the Warriors shutout Humboldt State, 2-0, Friday night.

Alena Smajlagic and Lisa Garcia scored for the Warriors as they improved to 8-8-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Lumberjacks fall to 7-8-2 and 4-7-2 in the CCAA.

The win was the Warriors' eighth shutout of the season as all of their victories came via shutouts. Stanislaus is now 6-1-1 at Warrior Stadium with one home contest remaining when it hosts Sonoma State at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

"It is nice to get back on the winning track. We love playing at home," CSUS head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "We did a good job of battling for 90 minutes today. I'm proud of the effort."

Smajlagic opened the scoring for the Warriors early, scoring inside the second minute mark at 1:46. From a direct kick, the ball was headed by a HSU defender, but Smajlagic came up with the loose ball and knocked it in for the lead.

Despite the 11-5 shots and 9-1 corner kicks disadvantage, the Warriors actually had control of the ball offensively.

Stanislaus took a 2-0 lead at 23:52 when Garcia scored his 10th goal of the year on a play nicely set-up by one-touch passes from Smajlagic and Bernadette Bettencourt.

"She scored a great goal on a beautiful one-touch pass from Bernie. Lisa really made a great run," Bolton said.

Garcia tied the single-season record with her 10th goal and now has the second-best single season points total with 24. Marti Teunissen had 10 goals and 27 points in 2005.

CSUS goalkeeper Jessica Sitarz had six saves, including a few great ones. Right after the Smajlagic goal, Lumberjack midfielder Carly Kolpin almost tied the score when she took a hard shot right at the goal that Sitarz nicely deflected over the cross bar. Sitarz now has 16 career shutouts in four years.

"Jess made some fantastic saves in the game especially in the first half. She also provided great leadership," Bolton said of the team captain.

Sitarz and Smajlagic will be recognized on Senior Day on Sunday as they will be playing in their final home match.
