TURLOCK -- Cal Poly Pomona had four different players score in double digits Friday night at Warrior Arena, as the Broncos ran away with the game in the second half, beating the Warriors for the second time in 34 days, this time by a score of 83-55.
With the loss, the Warriors fall to 6-12 overall and 2-11 in the CCAA, and are still three games back of the eighth and final California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament spot with seven games to play. The Broncos improve to 12-6 overall and 8-5 in CCAA play.
Robert Summers, Larry Gordon, Tobias Jahn and Austin Swift all scored in double digits for Cal Poly Pomona Friday, scoring 18, 17, 14 and 13 points, respectively. Gordon, who came into the game averaging a double-double for the season with 13.6 points and 11.0 rebounds, grabbed just three total boards on Friday, all on the defensive end. Swift had eight and the Broncos had 31 rebounds as a team, out-grabbing the Warriors by 13, marking the 14th time the Warriors have been outrebounded in 18 games this season.
Michael Dyson had his 11th double-digit scoring game of the season with 13 points to lead the Warriors, as well as grabbing five rebounds, his 13th game of the campaign with at least five boards..
Matt Ibewiro added 10 points as the Warriors' only other double-digit scorer.
Chris Teevan had nine points, five boards and two assists.
Despite the final score, the game was actually a close one through the first half and early part of the second. The Warriors were as close as five points with 33 seconds left in the first half before Jimmy Miyasaka hit a 3-pointer to put the Broncos up by eight at the half. Cal State Stanislaus stayed within 10 points during the first five minutes of the second half before the Broncos all of the sudden blew up.
Geared by a 21-4 run that spanned nearly eight minutes, the Broncos took a 25-point lead and never looked back. Cal Poly Pomona was on fire, shooting 80 percent for the second half, including going 8-for-9 from the field during the run. The Broncos would finish the night shooting 64 percent for the game, far outshooting the Warriors' 46.8 percent.
The Warriors will close out their four-game homestand with a game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday against first place Cal State San Bernardino before heading out on the road for a five-game stretch.
