TURLOCK -- After being shut-down offensively, the Cal State Stanislaus softball team responded in a big way in the nightcap to pick up a split on Friday.

The Warriors won game two, 8-1, after dropping the opener, 5-3 in 11 innings to Sonoma State in a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader at Warrior Softball Field.

With the split, Stanislaus is 16-8 overall and 11-7 in CCAA play heading into Saturday's twinbill against the Seawolves. Sonoma State is 16-14 and 7-10 and has won eight of its last nine games.

Against the hottest team in the conference in Sonoma State, the Warriors' bats were stifled in the opener against SSU's Lindsay Emmel. Emmel allowed just one hit in the first 10 innings as the teams deadlock scoreless until the 11th innings.

All of the runs were scored in the 11th innings with Sonoma State belting two home runs for a 5-0 lead. The Warriors got three runs back in the bottom of the 11th with a three-run home run to left by Jennifer Arnold.

Emmel went the distance for SSU and struck out 15 batters for the win. Jessica Gaumnitz picked up the loss. She gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out 10 batters.

In the nightcap, Stanislaus went to work immediately, answer Sonoma State's one-run first inning with a four-run home half of the first. The Warriors capitalized on control issues by two Sonoma State pitchers and picked two runs on bases loaded walks. Alyssa Guzman then singled in two more runs to make it 4-1.

The Warriors would add three runs in the fifth on just two hits and four more Sonoma State errors for the final margin.

Arnold tossed a complete game to earn the win the nightcap. She allowed just four hits and struck out five and walked one to improve to 5-2 on the season.

Guzman went 2-for-3 with a RBIs and Arnold went 1-for-2, scored twice and walked twice to lead the Warriors offensively. Erica McIntyre went 1-for-3 with a RBI triple in game two to extend her hitting streak to nine games. McIntyre had the team's first hit in game one in the seventh inning.
