TURLOCK -- The No. 1-ranked Cal State Stanislaus Warriors stood Friday behind another great pitching performance and key late hits to win the first game of a four-game series against San Francisco State, 6-1, at Warrior Field.

With the win the Warriors improve to 13-3 overall and 5-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Gators fall to 5-10 overall and 1-8 in CCAA play. The Warriors have now won seven straight against San Francisco State since 2007 and eight straight in Turlock since 2005.

Spencer Snodgrass allowed just two baserunners through his first four innings to keep pace with San Francisco State starter Spencer Kreisberg who retired nine of his first 10 batters faced. Snodgrass ran into trouble in the fourth but after a leadoff walk and a double, he struck out three straight to keep the Gators off the scoreboard.

The Warriors grabbed the lead in their half of the fourth inning when Jake Thelen led off with a triple to right-center field. Kyle Loretelli followed Thelen by reaching with a hit-by-pitch and stole second to put two runners in scoring position with no outs. Senior Jake Oketani gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead with a one-out two-RBI single to right field.

Snodgrass (3-1) would go 6 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk, scattering six hits for the win. Kreisberg (1-3) was replaced after five innings where he struck out five and gave up two runs on four hits in the loss. Eric Federico pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn his third save of the season and drop his ERA to 1.69.

The Warriors wreaked havoc on the basepaths, stealing four bases including two from Thelen, giving him seven on the season. David Contreras and Loretelli each stole their fifth of the year. With two separate RBI bunts in the seventh and a two-run homerun by Oketani in the eighth, the Warriors held a 6-1 lead going into the ninth inning.

San Francisco State got their lone run in the seventh with three singles, the final one by Patrick Haugen that scored Ryan Williams and knocked Snodgrass out of the game.

The two teams continue their CCAA series at 11 a.m. on Saturday in San Francisco with a doubleheader. The series will conclude Sunday in Turlock with a single game beginning at 11 a.m.
