SAN FRANCISCO — Flexing its muscles as the top-ranked team in Division II, Cal State Stanislaus swept a conference doubleheader over San Francisco State and moved into sole possession of first place on Saturday.

The Warriors pounded out 17 hits to win game one 15-2 before a 6-1 game-two win behind more powerful hitting and the arm of Dakota Watts. Cal State Stanislaus, now 15-3 overall and 7-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, takes over first place in the conference standings heading into Sunday's series finale in Turlock.

Cal State Stanislaus, ranked No. 1 in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper poll for NCAA Division II, belted five home runs — two each from Zach Cadet and Kyle Loretelli and another by Leandro Dottavio — in Saturday's hitting display. San Francisco State dropped to 5-12 overall and 1-10 in the CCAA.

Cal State Stanislaus broke open a close game in game one in the fourth and fifth innings. With the score tied at 2-2, the Warriors scored twice in the fourth on a two-run shot by Dottavio. Stanislaus then scored five runs in the fifth highlighted by a two-run single by Alex Zanini and a three-run homer by Cadet to make it 9-2. CSUS would tag on runs in the final three innings off of the Gator bullpen.

Loretelli belted his first home run of the day — a solo shot that led off the ninth inning. Andrew Stueve got the win on the mound going six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits while striking out two.

Cadet and Loretelli would be at it again at the plate in the nightcap. Cadet started game two, off of SFSU starter Kyle Masellar's first pitch, with a solo homer and Loretelli added another moon shot in the third to make it 2-0. Zanini drove in two runs in the fourth with a triple and Dottavio knocked in two more runs in the fifth with a two-out single.

Watts struck out six batters in the first three innings and lasted through the fifth to earn a win to improve to 5-0 on the year. He gave up just one unearned run on four hits, struck out seven and walked one. Tony Smith and Eric Cendejas had two easy innings to close out the game.

For the day, Cadet went 4-for-9 in the doubleheader with two home runs and six runs batted in. In game one alone, the left-fielder was 3-for-5 with five RBIs, scored twice and homered.

Loretelli had four hits, including his team-leading fifth and sixth home runs of the season.

The rubber game of the series returns to Turlock for a noon start on Sunday at Warrior Baseball Field.
