LA JOLLA -- Against the fourth-ranked team in the country, the Warriors put up a good fight in the third and final set before falling to UC San Diego at the RIMAC Arena Saturday night.
No. 4 UC San Diego easily took the first two games and held on to win the third to beat Cal State Stanislaus, 25-14, 25-16, 25-20 to improve to 14-1 overall and 6-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State Stanislaus, which has now lost six of its last seven matches after a four-match winning streak, falls to 6-8 and 0-6 in the CCAA. Saturday's setback was the Warriors' second against a top-four ranked team in a week.
Last Saturday, the Warriors lost to No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino. There are currently two other CCAA teams ranked in the AVCA Top 25. No. 15 Sonoma State is next on the Warriors' schedule when Stanislaus travels to Rohnert Park on Friday. CSUS hosts No. 23 Chico State on Oct. 7.

Stanislaus hung close in the first and was at 10-8 before UCSD pulled away. In the second, UCSD jumped out to an 8-1 lead, but Stanislaus rallied to within two at 8-6 before the Tritons again rallied for the run-away win.
In the third set, however, the Warriors had their first leads of the night and was up 10-6 after one of
Janay Bankston's four kills. After the match was tied at 13-13, UCSD's Katie Condon and Sylvia Schmidt took charge to end the match.
Schmidt finished the night with 14 kills and Condon had seven. Elaine Chen had 32 assists and eight digs to help UCSD.
