LOS ANGELES -- Games determined by one goal have become a regular occurrence for the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team. Unfortunately for the team, the Warriors have ended up on the wrong side of nearly all those games.

For the fourth time this season, and second time this weekend, the Warriors were beat by one goal. Sunday it was Liz Franco for Cal State L.A. who scored to beat the Warriors in double overtime by a score of 2-1. The Warriors are now 1-4 in one-goal games this year.

The Warriors are now 5-6-0 overall and 1-6-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State L.A. improves to 9-2-0 overall and 6-2-0 in the CCAA.

Franco notched the game-winning goal in the 106th minute of play with a header off a free kick. The Warriors were called for a foul, awarding the Golden Eagles a free kick. Amanda Matthews booted the ball near the goal and Franco took care of the rest.

"This is a difficult loss to take because once again we played well but did not get the result," said Warriors head coach Gabe Bolton.

The win was essentially a comeback win for the Golden Eagles, who fell behind 1-0 against the Warriors in the first half. Lisa Garcia scored in the 21st minute by lofting the ball over the goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season. Bernadette Bettencourt was credited with the assist after giving the ball to Garcia inside the goalkeeper box.

"Lisa hit a blast," Bolton said. "She was very aggressive offensively which was great to see."

The score would stay 1-0 in favor of the Warriors through halftime and into the second half until Cal State L.A. punched through with an equalizer. Jennifer Schaefer shot left and was able to get the ball in between the posts, despite Warriors goalkeeper Millie Brown getting a piece of it.

Brown had nine saves in the game while playing all 105 minutes, 58 seconds of match time.

"Millie made some fantastic saves in the first half. It was a very impressive performance," said Bolton.

Cal State L.A. came at the Warriors hard, leading them 22-7 in shot attempts and holding an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Warriors stood the test, however, and played aggressively.

"Our possession was great and we created some terrific scoring chances," Bolton said.

Cal State Stanislaus returns to Warrior Stadium at 4:30 p.m. Friday to host San Francisco State in the first game of a three-game homestand.
