TURLOCK -- Frank Monge had another double-double and the Warriors hung on to defeat visiting Chico State, 66-56, Tuesday night at Warrior Arena.

Monge notched his third double-double of the season with 20 points and 15 rebounds -- both career highs -- to lead Cal State Stanislaus to improve to 8-6 overall and 4-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Chad Johnson chipped in 14 points and Dwight Jones added seven for the Warriors. Jordan Stokes had seven rebounds while Mactac Gueye had six points and six rebounds.

Chico State, with three players in double figures in scoring, dropped to 9-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play. Jon Baird had 17 points, Samario Sims added 14 while Roderick Hawkins put in 10 points and grabbed nine boards.

Chico State, playing its fifth road game in nine days, was just 4-for-21 in the first half but stayed in the game by making eight free throws to keep the game some-what close.

The low scoring affair saw a halftime score of 29-17 in favor of Cal State Stanislaus. The Warriors used a 11-0 run during a five-minute stretch in the first half that was capped by a Johnson jumper for a 29-15 lead at 1:16 to go.

The second half was a much faster pace as Chico State took 41 shots, but still only shot 26.8 percent for the period to finish 15 of 62 for 24.2 percent in the game. The Warriors shot 40.7 percent from the floor.

Stanislaus' biggest lead came seconds into the second half on a Monge free throw for a 32-17 advantage. Chico State, however, would rally all the way back to cut the CSUS lead to two on three Baird free throws to make it 52-50 with four minutes left to play.

The Warriors pulled ahead by nine inside the one minute-mark only to see two consecutive Chico three-pointers sandwiched a pair a Jones free throws to make it a five-point game, 61-56, with 36 seconds left.

With 22 second remaining, Jones would make a steal and a layup for a seven-point cushion. But it was his steal on the ensuing Chico in-bounds play that finally sealed the victory as the Warriors improved to 4-1 at home this season.

The three-game week continues for Cal State Stanislaus on Friday when Cal State Dominguez Hills visits for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
