TURLOCK -- Jordan Stokes had 17 points and two other Warriors were in double digits in scoring but it wasn't enough as Cal State Stanislaus fell short against Cal State Monterey Bay, 74-68, Saturday night in Warrior Arena.

Stokes, who also had seven rebounds, led the charge while Chad Johnson netted 14 points and Matt Ibewiro added 12 as the Warriors fall to 9-9 overall and 5-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Sean Jergo was one of four Otters in double figures in scoring with 17 points and seven rebounds to help Monterey Bay improve to 7-11 overall and 5-8 in the CCAA.

The Warriors also got seven points from Dwight Jones and Frank Monge pulled a game-best 10 rebounds.

Davion Berry had 15 while Brandon Ward and Ian Hosford each chipped in 11 for the Otters.

Stanislaus had a 28-22 halftime lead after shooting a solid 50 percent from the field. Stokes and Johnson each had seven points in the opening period.

CSUMB, however, used a 13-2 run to begin the second half and took a 35-30 lead at the first media timeout break. The Otters never gave up the lead, only allowing the Warriors to pull within one, 35-34, at 13:31. Another CSUMB run gave the visitors an 11-point lead, 47-36, halfway through the half.

During a 40 second stretch and trailing by nine, 57-48, with 4:40 to go, the Warriors gave the home crowd something to cheer loud about with an energetic run.

Ibewiro started the streak with a dunk after getting an inside pass from Prince Abidoye. Jones then forced a CSUMB turnover and passed up ahead to Stokes for a layup. Then, on the ensuing CSUMB possession, Abidoye picked up a pass from the Otters and worked up the court to Johnson. Johnson then found a wide-opener Jones in the left corner for a three-pointer to cut the Otters lead to two, 57-55.

The Otters, though, responded after a timeout and built their lead back up to nine and eventually held on for the win.

The loss gave the Warriors a 2-3 record during the important mid-conference season home stretch. They will now have to find some wins on the road with their next three CCAA contests away from Turlock. Next weekend's road trip to Southern California begins at conference leader Cal State San Bernardino.
