HAYWARD — After trailing for most of the game, the Warriors literally rebounded as the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team rallied to win another close game with a 66-58 win at Cal State East Bay.
Stanislaus dominated the glass and again used a balance attack to win its second straight game to improve to 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Jordan Stokes led the team with 16 points and eight rebounds and the Warriors out-rebounded Cal State East Bay 39-22.
Matt Ibewiro had 11 points and seven rebounds while
Frank Monge and
Prince Abidoye each chipped in 10 points.
Cal State East Bay is still looking for its first win in the conference as the Pioneers dropped to 3-8 overall and 0-6 in the CCAA.
East Bay scored the first 11 points of the game and led 34-30 at the half. CSUEB led by as many as 12 points led in the first half. The Warriors did not grab their first lead until a Stokes jumper at 8:23 in the second half that gave CSUS a 47-46 advantage.
After EB's Will Freedman gave the Pioneers their last lead of the night at 4:50 left to go, Stanislaus went on a 9-0 run that was capped by an Abidoye three-pointer with 52 second left to go for the Warriors largest lead.
For the game, the Warriors shot 49.1 percent from the field despite making just three of 13 three-point attempts.
Tyler Smith also contributed to the team's rebounding with seven boards.
Stokes was 7-for-12 from the field to lead the team in scoring for the second straight game.
Cal State East Bay was led by Adam Green with 13 points. Freedman finished with 12 points.
The Warriors will use Friday as a travel day down to La Jolla before taking on UC San Diego Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in the RIMAC Arena.
