TURLOCK -- The Cal State Stanislaus softball team battled all day and were in two close games but the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay took both games of the twinbill to complete the series sweep.

The Warriors' rallied in game one before coming up short to loose 6-4 and in the nightcap, CSUMB scored four runs in the seventh to win 9-7.

Leading for the first time during the four-game set 7-5 going into the seventh inning, the Warriors weren't able to hold on to avoid the series sweep. Monterey Bay scored four times, highlighted by CSUMB's bases clearing double by Cat Sampson.

Trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors (1-6-1, 0-4 CCAA) rallied for three runs. Ashton Brown and Cassandra Carols both doubled in runs and Sloan Hanna drove in a run with a single to pull CSUS within one at 5-4.

The comeback continued as Stanislaus scored twice in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. Nikky Rissetto and Brittany Balanesi both batted in runs. In the sixth, Sarah Locarnini scored on a wild pitch for a 7-5 advantage.

Sampson finished the nightcap with two doubles and drove in five runs to lead the Otters (5-1, 4-0 CCAA). Shae Olds homered for the fourth straight game and belted two three-run homers in the first inning of both contests on Sunday.

Brown went 2-for-3 with two doubles and Locarnini also had two hits in game two.

Earlier on the day, after Olds gave CSUMB a 3-0 lead with a long homer to right-center field, the Warriors stayed close. Sampson singled in two runs in the third to make it 5-3, but CSUS freshman starter Brittani Weatherford settled down for a solid game. She finished the complete game and allowed six runs on six hits despite picking up her third loss of the season.

Jennifer Arnold went 2-for-4 with a double in game one. Kiley Mendez doubled and Missy Corral drove in two runs with a triple in the opener.

Cal State Stanislaus started out 1-6 -- then 5-13 -- in 2008 and still went on to finish second in the CCAA. The  year, the Warriors advanced as far as the West Regional tournament.
