LA JOLLA — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team's bats were quite on Friday as the Warriors offense were limited by the UC San Diego pitching staff.
The Warriors mustered a total of five hits in the California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader to loose both ends of the twinbill, 2-0 and 5-3.
With the pair of setbacks, the Warriors fall to 3-16-1 overall and 1-13 in conference play while the Tritons improved to 15-9 and 11-7 in the CCAA.
In game one, the Warriors managed three singles in the shutout.
Sarah Locarnini led off the game with a single,
Erica McIntyre singled in the fourth and
Missy Corral singled in the seventh.
UC San Diego starter Camille Gaito struck out eight and walked one in the complete game win while CSUS starter Brittany Weatherford was tagged with the loss in six innings of work. She gave up just five hits.
In the nightcap, with the Tritons leading 4-1, Stanislaus scored twice in the fifth to pull within one at 4-3. The runs were scored on a passed ball and a wild pitch as the Warriors had just two hits in the game.
Locarnini drove in a run with an infield single in the second and
Nicole Jenkins collected a two-out single up the middle in the fourth.
Jennifer Arnold gave up five runs -- only two of them earned -- on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings of work to pick up the loss.
The two teams will wrap up the four-game set with another doubleheader on Saturday.
