CHICO -- It isn't exactly the way any team wants to end its season, but the Cal State Stanislaus softball team faced a Chico State team fighting to get into the postseason.

In the end, the Wildcats completed the series sweep with 1-0 and 9-1 wins on Saturday in front of an announced attendance of 525. Chico State improved to 28-17 overall and 21-14 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Wildcats finish fourth in the CCAA and will get a berth into the conference tournament next weekend in Stockton.

For the Warriors, the four-game setback meant that the Warriors end the season on an eight-game skid to finish 13-36-1 overall and 8-28 in the CCAA.

In game one on Saturday, Jennifer Arnold tossed a three-hitter and gave up the game's lone run in the sixth inning. A leadoff hit that was erased by a fielder's choice placed Chico's Sam Quadt on first and with two outs, Jenna Wermes knocked in Quadt with a double for the score.

Arnold also provided the offense with two hits, but the Warriors stranded a total of 10 baserunners including the bases loaded in the first and sixth innings.

Chico State starter Jessica McDermott gave up five hits, walked five but struck out nine to get out of many jams for the win.

In the nightcap, the Wildcats scored seven runs in the first inning off CSUS pitcher Kiley Mendez. The inning was keyed by a two-run single by Wermes and Kelly Head had one of three doubles in the inning that drove in two more scores.

To Mendez's credit, she settled down after the first, gave up a single in the fourth before Chico struck for four more hits in the fifth inning to plate two scores to end the game via the mercy run.

The Warriors got their run in the fourth as Arnold doubled in her final collegiate at-bat to start the frame and scored on a Mendez single.
