ROHNERT PARK -- Against the high-power offense of No. 12 ranked Sonoma State, the Cal State Stanislaus softball team held its own on Saturday before dropping both games of a conference doubleheader, 4-1 and 6-3.

With the pair of setbacks, the Warriors, losers of four straight and seven of last nine, fall to 8-27-1 overall and 3-19 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Sonoma State, currently ranked No. 12 in the NFCA Top 25 and No. 3 in the NCAA West Region, improved to 31-8 and 17-5 in conference play.

Jennifer Arnold doubled in Sarah Locarnini, who drew a leadoff walk to start the day, in game one to give Stanislaus a 1-0 lead. But that double would be the Warriors' one of three hits in the game against SSU's Julianne Martinez.

Kayla Ledford gave the Seawolves a 2-1 lead in the third with a two-run duble. Then Ali Palermo belted a two-run homer off CSUS freshman Brittani Weatherford in the fourth for the final count.

Palermo then hit two more home runs in the second game to beat the Warriors again.

With Stanislaus leading 3-0 in the fourth, Palermo's sole homer got SSU on the board, then her three-run home run in the sixth broke a 3-3 tie to give the Seawolves the sweep. Both homers were again off Weatherford, who unfortunately has now allowed 21 for the season. As a team, Stanislaus has been hurt by the long ball, allowing 34 in 36 games.

The Warriors' offensive highlight for game two was provided by Locarnini, who went 4-for-4, including a two-run double in the second that game the team a 2-0 lead. Erica McIntyre drove in a run with a single to left in the fourth for the 3-0 advantage.

Sonoma State's potent offense now boasts a batting average of .334 and has out-scored opponents 234-91. As a team, the Seawolves have belted 36 home runs with 59 doubles and nine triples.
