TURLOCK -- Alexia Poon's first half goal was all the Warriors needed as the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team defeated Humboldt State, 1-0, Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Warriors are off to the program's best start.

The Warriors, winners of three straight one-goal games, improved to 7-1-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the North Division of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Stanislaus remains in first place in the standings.

The fast 7-1 start passed the 2004 team that started 6-1 and only the 2005 team had a better start to the conference season when that team began 6-0.

Humboldt State falls to 1-7-0 and 1-5-0 in CCAA play. The Lumberjacks have now been outscored 11-3 and have lost three straight.

"We created a lot of chances today. I was really pleased with our possession and attacking mentality," Stanislaus head coach Gabriel Bolton said. "Humboldt is well organized and a difficult team to break down."

Poon got Stanislaus on the board in the 20th minute when she took a ball from a HSU defender just inside the box on the left side and shot it to the far corner of the net for the goal. Poon's play was set up by Karenee Demery, who cross it from the top of the box, and Marissa Dunaway. It was Poon's third goal of the season.

"Alexia's goal was really well placed from a tough angle. She had a great weekend," says Bolton.

Cal State Stanislaus was in control for most of the contest and out-shot the Lumberjacks, 15-3. HSU had the first shot of the match, just seconds into the contest, but a point-blank attempt was kicked saved by Warriors goalkeeper Millie Brown. That play ended up to be Humboldt State's only shot on goal of the contest.

"Defensively we played tough and really did a great job of limiting their opportunities," Bolton added. "Millie was fantastic today. She made some great plays which were the difference."

The Warriors remain home next weekend to wrap-up their six-game homestand when they host Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
