TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team was dominate in its home opener Saturday night as the Warriors blanked Western Oregon, 4-0, at Warrior Stadium.
True freshman
Karenee Demery scored her second goal of the year early to give Stanislaus a 1-0 lead to set the tone for the rest of the match.
Alisa Barlow,
Tiffany Martin and
Briana McClain all scored for the Warriors.
Cal State Stanislaus improved to 2-0 on the young season before opening conference play on the road next weekend. The Warriors also won their ninth straight home opener, a streak that started in 2002.
"That was a great start to the home season. We created a lot of great scoring chances against a quality side," CSUS head coach
Gabriel Bolton said. "It was great to see us put many of those opportunities in the back of the net."
Opportunities were aplenty for the Warriors early and often.
After Demery got on the board at the 5:03 mark — a breakaway score from a nice pass from
Allison Case from midfield — the Warrior offensive attack remained relentless.
The Warriors out-shot the Wolves 10-0 in the first half and ended with a 22-4 total.
Barlow's goal, assisted by
Rachel Naranjo from the right corner, came in just before the 35-minute mark. Martin made it 3-0 on a penalty kick conversion after WOU's Jill Petersen was given a yellow card in the box.
The defense and goalkeeping remain solid for Stanislaus with its second straight shutout — third in a row dating back to the 2009 finale. The Warriors blanked Fresno Pacific Thursday night.
McClain, who missed last season with an injury, notched herself in the scoring column with her 14th career goal. It tied her for sixth in the CSUS career top 10 list for goals in a career. McClain's score was assisted by Demery and Case.
