What's on Tap
The Warriors ring in the new year with a pair of conference games at home, in the Fitzpatrick Arena, as they host Cal State East Bay and UC San Diego.
Last Week
No. 15 Cal State Dominguez Hills used a strong second half to prevent an upset bid by the Warriors at the Toros won 64-53 Thursday night. Friday night at Cal State L.A., the Golden Eagles used a 12-0 run in the final moments of the game to beat Stanislaus, 66-59.
Scott Emerges as a Regular Threat
Evan Scott has now provided the Warriors another regular threat on both ends of the court with his play lately. He has led the team in scoring in three of last four games and is the top rebounder in the previous three contests. Scott is now second on the team in scoring (10.8 ppg) and leads in rebounding (50 total, 5.0 per game) and blocked shots (9) … He has recorded the team's only two double-double of the season with his most recent a 12-point, 10-rebound performance last Thursday in Carson.
Jones Scores Double Digits Again
Reggie Jones appeared to have returned to his scoring form after missing a double-figure scoring game against Cal Baptist. Jones scored 10 and 17 points in the two contests last week and now has seven double-digit scoring games. He leads the team with 14.1 points per game.
Low Scoring Games
As expected, the Warriors were in two low-scoring affairs last week as they limited #15 Cal State Dominguez Hills to 64 points and 66 to Cal State L.A. However, the Warriors were below their average both days with 53 and 59 points. They had avearged 60.0 points per game prior to last week's games … the Warriors are now averaging just 59. 2 points per game, last in the CCAA by six points.
It's Just a Little Skid on the Road
Since upsetting Humboldt State on Dec. 4 (handing the Lumberjacks their only loss of the season, still) at Fitzpatrick Arena, the Warriors are unfortunately on a little skid with four road losses in the last five games. The only win was over NAIA Cal Baptist, 65-56, at home.
Earning the Free Points
Cal State Stanislaus moved up to second in the CCAA shooting from the free throw line with a .749 average (149 for 199), trailing just Humboldt State (.760).
Hitting the Glass
The Warriors have been out-rebounded in most games this season, however, that wasn't the last week as they out-rebounded by Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. Stanislaus, however, still ranks 10th in the CCAA in rebounding margin (-2.2).
Among the CCAA Stats Leaders
When counting all games,
Reggie Jones is now 8th in scoring (14.1 ppg), but leads the league in scoring during CCAA games only (18.2 ppg). He is also 9th in field goal percentage (.550), seventh free throw percentage (.795) …
Dan Daviess is now 4th in three-point field goal percentage (.425) and 10th in three-pointers made (17).
Head Coach Larry Reynolds
Larry Reynolds is in his second season as the Warriors' head coach. In his first season, the Warriors went 10-17, the first-10-win season since a 13-16 mark in 2006-07. Reynolds came to Cal State Stanislaus after leading Long Beach State to a NCAA tournament appearance in 2006-07 when the 49ers went 24-8. As a Division II coach at Cal State San Bernardino from 1997 to 2002, Reynolds posted a 110-35 overall record. Under Reynolds, CSUSB won three CCAA titles, two regional championships and made four NCAA tournament appearances. Reynolds was named CCAA coach of the year four times and was the west region coach of the year in 1998-99 following the Coyotes' West Region championship.
CCAA Basketball Championships
The 2011 CCAA Men's & Women's Basketball Championship tournament will be held at the beginning of March. Eight teams qualify for the tournament with first round games on campus site March 1.
