TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus volleyball team held off three Humboldt State match-points and scored five unanswered to win Saturday night's CCAA match in five tight sets, 20-25, 26-24, 19-25, 25-22, 16-14.

Lianne Vicchio had 19 kills and 20 digs and Jessica Lehner had eight kills, 11 digs to go with her 49 assists as they led the Warriors on Dig for the Cure Night at Fitzpatrick Arena. The Warriors improved to 9-8 overall and 5-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Humboldt State was led by Oceana Matsubu, who had 22 kills and 15 digs, and a furious blocking defense before coming up short. The Lumberjacks fell to 6-11 overall and 3-10 in the CCAA to split their roadtrip after upsetting Chico State Friday night.

In the final set, back-to-back CSUS attacking errors allowed Humboldt State to take a 14-11 lead after the Warriors had control of the decisive set early. But a service error by HSU turned the tide in favor of Stanislaus.

Eva Chafeh put away a kill to make it 14-13, then a timely block by Jacqueline Moore-DesLauriers and Jennifer Marsh tied the match at 14 apiece. Chafeh then recorded her 16th kill of the night for a CSUS one-point lead.

Cal State Stanislaus finally took the match on the final set of play on a HSU attacking error for the victory.

Marsh finished with 13 kills, Jaclyn Pinasco had 16 digs with Andrea Fett helping with 12 digs and two service aces to pace the Warriors. Janay Bankston also chipped in with seven kills.

HSU's blocking game was key for the visitors as the Lumberjacks tallied 18 total blocks with two solos. Allison Drobish was credited with seven total blocks, six of them assisted. HSU libero Tiffany McCray led all players with 23 digs. Bailey Kotas had 48 assists.

Some of signs pointing to a closely contested match other than the set scores include dig totals (76-75, CSUS) and hitting percentage (.222 to .221, HSU). Both teams also had trouble serving with 15 errors for the Warriors and 13 for Humboldt. The final sideout percentages were 60 to 58 percent, in favor of HSU.

There were also a total of 38 tie scores and 17 lead changes in the five-set match.

The five-set win was similar to the Warriors' win the last time they played at home on a Saturday. Stanislaus beat Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-2, after being down 0-2. CSUS also beat Humboldt State in five back on Sept. 9 in Arcata. The Warriors are now 3-0 this season in five-set matches.
