It was a very close contested game throughout the first half, as the Seawolves played tight with the Warriors, who came into the game as winners in five of their first six games to start the 2011-12 season. In fact, Sonoma State held a six-point lead on a pair of occasions. However, Cal State Stanislaus would come right back and go up by five at 31-26 with 4:47 to play in the opening period.
The Seawolves would chip away at the deficit and a pair of free throws by Patrick Scott with three seconds left put SSU up 37-35, but a made jumper by the Warriors'
Dan Daviess to beat the buzzer knotted the halftime score at 37-37.
The second half quickly became a different story, however, as Cal State Stanislaus held Sonoma State scoreless for the first 6:35 after intermission until Scott hit a couple of free throws to end the drought, but the Seawolves found themselves trailing by 11 points (50-39). It wasn't until the 9:35 mark of the period that SSU finally hit a shot from the floor, a jumper by
Brian Crow to cut the CSUS lead to 14 at 55-41.
The Warriors were once again sharp at the free throw line, hitting 21 of 27 (77.8 percent)/
Cal State Stanislaus continues its trip north with a game at No. 8 Humboldt State Monday night. The Lumberjacks lost to Chico State 65-63.
