What's on Tap
The Warriors control their own postseason destiny going into the final weekend of regular season play at San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.
Last Week
In front of the season's biggest crowd on Homecoming night Friday, the Warriors couldn't keep up with Cal State San Bernardino in a 69-56 loss. Saturday, on Senior Night, the Warriors hung close against defending champion Cal Poly Pomona before falling 60-58.
CCAA Tournament Outlook
Cal State Stanislaus currently has sole possession of eighth place in the CCAA standings with only one tournament berth left up for grabs. The Warriors, looking for their first CCAA championship tournament trip, are one game ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State. UC San Diego and Cal State East Bay are already eliminated.
Qualifying Scenarios for Stanislaus
The Warriors will be in the tournament if they can win both games this weekend … A Stanislaus win, plus a Chico State win (vs. CSUMB) and a Sonoma State loss (vs. Cal State L.A.) on Thursday would also put the Warriors in the dance. If none of the above happens on Thursday, the Warriors will have to beat Cal State Monterey Bay and get help from Cal State Dominguez Hills (against Sonoma State) on Friday … If the Warriors drop two, the only way in would be if CSUMB goes 1-1 and Sonoma State drops two. Stanislaus holds tiebreak advantage over CSUMB even if they split season series by virtue of beating top team Humboldt State once.
Reggie Jones Leaps Over 300
Reggie Jones became the first player since 2008-09 to pass the 300-point mark last weekend. The junior center now has 332 points, the best single season total since Heath Colvin scored 406 in 2007-08.
First Time for Prince
Senior
Prince Abidoye came off the bench and led the Warriors with 11 points Saturday night, on senior night. It marked the first time this season that someone whose last night is not Jones or Scott led the team in scoring in a game.
Free Throw Record
The Warriors are on pace to break a new team record in free throw shooting percentage. Currently the Warriors are 75.3 percent from the foul line. The team record was 73.4.
Shot Stuffers
Juniors
Reggie Jones and
Evan Scott are the league's best in shot blocking as they are first and third, respectively. Jones averages 1.4 blocks per game with 27 overall in 22 games while Scott rejects 1.2 shots a game with 30 total in 24 contests … as a team the Warriors leads the conference with 3.5 per game and 83 total.
A Tale of Two Different Nights
Reggie Jones managed to beat-up on the Coyotes one night with a career-high 29 points on Friday. However, he was shutdown the next night and scored just six points against Cal Poly Pomona. Against CSUSB he was 9 for 15 and a perfect 10-for-10 from the line. Against Pomona, the Broncos limited passes inside and held Jones to just 2 of 7 shooting (he took just two shots in the first half) and only four free throw attempts (he made two).
