SAN FRANCISCO — Taking matters into their own hands, the Warriors make sure they are in control as far as getting that ticket for the conference tournament. Now the scenario is simple: win on Friday at Monterey Bay and the Warriors are in.

Holding the conference's top scoring Gators to just 31 percent shooting, the Warriors used a second half surge to take Thursday night's game, 68-57, at the Swamp. The Warriors are now 9-12 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (11-14 overall) after winning their third straight game on the road.

Cal State Stanislaus remains in eighth place in the CCAA standings with one game to go. They hold an one game lead over Sonoma State (8-13) going into Friday's regular season finale. Sonoma State has the tiebreak advantage over the Warriors with two head-to-head wins, so a Stanislaus win on Friday at Cal State Monterey Bay is a must. A Cal State Dominguez Hills win over the Seawolves in Rohnert Park will also give Stanislaus its first conference tournament berth.

With Chico State winning narrowly, 67-66, at Monterey Bay Thursday, the best Cal State Stanislaus can be is neither a No. 7 or No. 8 seed in the CCAA Championship tournament, which begins on campus sites of the top four teams on Tuesday.

Reggie Jones led CSUS with 17 points with six rebounds. He made 9 of 12 free throws. Brett Sayad had 10 points and seven rebounds and Evan Scott chipped in 11 points. Sam Marcus was instrumental in the win as he was 8-for-10 on the line in the second half for all eight of his points.

San Francisco State, now 15-10 overall and 13-8 in the CCAA, was leading the conference in scoring at 72.6 points per game while shooting at a league-best 46.8 percentage per contest.

Those numbers didn't matter for the Warriors, one of the best defensive teams in the CCAA.

After Brett Sayad tied the game with a jumper at 44-44 with 10:14 to go, the Warriors went on a 14-2 run during a five-minute-plus span. Evan Scott made it 58-46 with a layup with 4:49 to play.

During that run the Warriors made 7 of 8 free throw attempts with a huge three-pointer by Sayad to give Stanislaus the momentum.

The Warriors, the top free throw shooting team in the CCAA, continued to draw fouls and make free throws down the stretch to finish 22-for-31 from the charity stripe for 70 percent.

The victory turned Stanislaus into road Warriors as they have now won three straight after going 0-7 in the first seven conference away games. During the previous road trip, the Warriors beat UC San Diego on Feb. 10 and took down Cal State East Bay on Feb. 12.

The win is also the Warriors' 11th when leading at halftime and at the 5:00 mark. Stanislaus is now 9-3 when holding its opponents below 40 percent shooting.

Thursday night, San Francisco State was just 19 for 61 from the field and made just five of its 24 three-point attempts. The Gators were led by Marquel Hoskins with 17 points with Winston Demmin adding in 11.

Postseason Seeding Notes:
- A Cal State Stanislaus win or Sonoma State loss on Friday will send the Warriors into the conference tournament
- If the Warriors win, Chico State win (at SF State), and Cal State L.A. loose (at Humboldt State) on Friday, the Warriors would be the No. 7 seed
- If the Warriors, Chico State and Cal State L.A. end up in a three-way tie, the Warriors would be No. 8
