What's on Tap
Hoping this is the week they finally win a conference road game, the Warriors take it up against the two bottom teams in the conference standings.
Last Week
The Warriors were in both contests until the final minutes of both contests but dropped both games last weekend. Friday they lost at No. 14 Humboldt State, 77-67, and fell to Sonoma State, 67-59, Saturday.
Beating the Ranked Teams
Cal State Stanislaus is the only team in the conference with wins against both Cal State Dominguez Hills and Humboldt State, currently the top two teams in the CCAA. These two teams are also the only ranked teams in the conference this week with Humboldt State at No. 13 and Cal State Dominguez Hills at No. 15
Even Scoring
Four Warriors scored in double-digits in Friday's game at Humboldt State for a balance scoring attack.
Reggie Jones had 15 points and three guys —
Evan Scott,
Dan Daviess and
Prince Abidoye — each scored 13. That is usually a good formula for winning, but two Jacks, Brian Morris and Randy Hunter, scored 20 and 19 respectively.
Looking for a Road Win
Cal State Stanislaus is still looking for a victory away from the cozy, sweet home that it is the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena. The Warriors have came up on the wrong end of the scoreboard in seven California Collegiate Athletic Association road games this season (1-8 overall) with four more away contests on the schedule.
Dwight Jones makes a Living at the Line
Dwight Jones is driving to the hoop and getting to the free throw line often — and he's making the most of it. He now leads the conference in free throw shooting with a 87.0 percent success rate. He's made 60 of 69 this CCAA season during CCAA games … Jones was 7-for-7 last Saturday at Sonoma State and is now 40 of last 45.
Long Range Attacks
The three-point shot hurt the Warriors last weekend in both contests as opponents made more than half of their tries. Humboldt State was 10-for-20 one night and Sonoma State was deadly, hitting 12 of 20 for 60% the next. On the other side, Stanislaus made 31.6 percent each night (6-for-19) … Cal State Stanislaus is now last in the conference in defending the three's as the Warriors have allowed 114 treys (.369 opponents' three-point field goal percentage).
Blocking Leaders
The Warriors continue to lead the conference in blocked shots, averaging 3.4 per contest with 54 total during CCAA games (68 overall).
Evan Scott has 25 and
Reggie Jones 18 total blocked shots for the season.
Among the CCAA Leaders (CCAA games only)
Cal State Stanislaus is now fifth in the CCAA in scoring defense, allowing 62.9 points per game … The Warriors now second in free throw percentage (.753) … They lead the CCAA in blocked shots with 3.4 per contest and 54 total …

Evan Scott is 13th in rebounding (5.8 rpg) and fifth in blocked shots (1.1) …
Dan Daviess is 11th in 3-point field goal percentage (.400).
Head Coach Larry Reynolds
Larry Reynolds is in his second season as the Warriors' head coach. In his first season, the Warriors went 10-17, the first-10-win season since a 13-16 mark in 2006-07. Reynolds came to Cal State Stanislaus after leading Long Beach State to a NCAA tournament appearance in 2006-07 when the 49ers went 24-8. As a Division II coach at Cal State San Bernardino from 1997 to 2002, Reynolds posted a 110-35 overall record. Under Reynolds, CSUSB won three CCAA titles, two regional championships and made four NCAA tournament appearances. Reynolds was named CCAA coach of the year four times and was the west region coach of the year in 1998-99 following the Coyotes' West Region championship.
Fitzpatrick Arena
Warrior Arena was renamed Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena at the start the 2010-11 season. The arena is named for Ed and Bertha Fitzpatrick, owners of Valley Lexus/Valley BMW in Modesto and other car dealerships in the Bay Area. The Fitzpatricks have been long-time supporters of California State University Stanislaus. The gym has been named Warrior Arena since 1999, 21 years after it was built.
CCAA Basketball Championships
The 2011 CCAA Men's & Women's Basketball Championship tournament will be held at the beginning of March. Eight teams qualify for the event with first round games on campus site March 1. The four winners will advance to the semifinals and finals in Hayward on the campus of Cal State East Bay. The winner of the tournament would receive the automatic bid for the NCAA tournament.
Warriors picked 7th in CCAA
In a vote of the conference coaches, the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball were predicted to be a conference tournament team by the end of the 2010-11 season. The Warriors were picked to finish seventh in the preseason poll. The Warriors are coming off a 6-16 CCAA season as they finished 10th. Defending national champion Cal Poly Pomona received 10 of 12 first place votes and is the favor to win the title in 2010-11.
