TURLOCK – The Cal State Stanislaus softball team was unable to capture a win against the visiting San Francisco State Gators Friday afternoon. The Warriors fell 9-2 and 10-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader.

The Warriors fall to 12-22 in the CCAA and 19-30 overall.  The Gators improve their record to 11-23 in conference play and 18-33 overall.

Brittani Weatherford started in the circle in game one for the Warriors.  She pitched 6.2 innings and gave up three earned runs on 11 hits, while striking out four batters.

Sarah Locarnini led the game off with a single to left center and eventually scored from a throwing error by the right fielder in hopes of holding Locarnini on third.  The Warriors went on to score one more time in the fifth inning.  Vanessa Del Toro led off with a walk and was then advanced to second after a successful sac bunt by Veronica Luna.  Del Toro then advanced to third on a wild pitch by San Francisco's Ashley Jackson.  Brittany Rickles then hit a deep sac fly to left field, scoring Del Toro.

San Francisco State's strong pitching and defense held the Warriors to just one hit all game and prevented them from challenging the 9-2 final score.

Freshman pitcher, Kristan Burns started the nightcap, marking her first start in the circle since the annual Tournament of Champions earlier this month.  Burns pitched competitively through 4.3 innings, but in the 5.0 innings pitched she gave up six earned runs on ten hits.

After a scoreless first by both teams, San Francisco State was the first to take the lead after a single run in the second.  The Warriors quickly matched it after a strong inning by Del Toro once again.  Del Toro led off with a single up the middle and was moved to second with a sac bunt by Kiley MendezLauren Nagle then hit a single to center field which allowed Del Toro to score from second base.

It seemed to be a constant battle as the Gators increased to a two-run lead over the Warriors in the third.  The Warriors answered back but were only able to touch home once, wrapping up the third inning with a 3-2 score in favor of the Gators.

Cal State Stanislaus finally matched the score in the fourth after a single by Lauren Nagle and an RBI double by pitcher Burns.

In the fifth inning, with two outs, the Gators bats became unstoppable and after seven hits and a grand slam by SFSU's Kelsey Wood, the score increased to 10-3.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Warriors took advantage of a new Gator pitcher and showed their patience at the plate.  San Francisco's Jordan Stanaland gave up a single to Mendez to lead the rally, following was the walking of four straight Warrior batters bringing the score to 10-5.  Locarnini then hit a sac fly to the center fielder to score relief pitcher, Alyssa Coehlo.  Although the Warriors fought hard the comback was a little late and the score finalized with a 10-6 Stanislaus loss.

Nagle was strong on offense for the Warriors, swinging two-for-two in game two with two runs and two walks. Vanessa Del Toro finished two-for-four with two runs, one RBI, and two walks on the day.

The Warriors will wrap-up their final doubleheader of the season and celebrate their senior day tomorrow afternoon.  First pitch is at noon.
