TURLOCK — Two solid pitching performances combined with timely hitting was the formula the Warriors needed on Saturday as they swept Cal State L.A. in a CCAA doubleheader to clinch the four-game series.

Vinny Pacchetti struck out career-high 14 batters in the 5-4 game one win. Then Leonard Giammanco came out of the bullpen for his first conference game start and threw a two-hit shutout to help Stanislaus win 3-0 in game two.

With the twinbill sweep, the fifth this season in 13 doubleheaders, Cal State Stanislaus improved to 23-17 overall and 15-16 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors will look for the sweep in the finale on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The Warriors won the opener in the bottom of the ninth inning on yet another walkoff win. With the bases loaded and one out, Zach Cadet took a 2-0 pitch deep to center over the Golden Eagle centerfielder to score David Contreras for the game-winner.

The dramatic walkoff win was the Warriors' seventh win in their final at-bats this season, but on Saturday Stanislaus held a 4-2 lead heading into the ninth.

Despite scattering 14 hits in the opener, Pacchetti was in control and was holding on to a 4-2 lead. Trying to throw a complete game, Pacchetti gave up a solo homer to Chad Nacapoy to start the ninth. Two outs later, He gave up a double to left forcing head coach Kenny Leonesio to make a change to bring in Phil Quade to get the final out.

Quade, however, gave up a double as Cal State L.A. tied the score to set up a dramatic home half of the ninth inning.

Pacchetti, who had 10 strikeouts in his previous start, gave up four runs and walked just one in his outing but got the no decision. He now has three 10-strikeout games and contiunes to be among the CCAA leaders with 72 Ks this season.

Six Warriors had two hits apiece in game one with the top five batters in the order going a collective 10-for-22 and scored all five runs. Colton Beatty had two doubles.

Nacapoy, who went 2-fof-4 with a triple on Friday, was 3-for-4 with two solo homers in the first game to lead the Golden Eagles (24-21, 18-17 CCAA).

In the nightcap, Leonesio called on Giammanco for a start due to the fact that the Warriors are in the middle of a stretch where they will have to play 10 games in 10 days. Giammanco, the team's closer, promptly answered the call with a two-hit shutout. He earned the win in the seven-inning complete game while striking out six with one walk.

Giammanco also out-dueled Cal State L.A.'s Gabriel Asakura, who entered the game with a 6-1 record and a 0.94 ERA. Askakura also held the league's best opponent batting average of .178. On Saturday, though, Asakura had some control issues as he walked four and hit three batters in six innings of work.

Cal State Stanislaus got three early runs in the first two innings off Asakura. Beatty scored Kory Vitato in with a triple and scored on a Cadet double off the right field fence to make a 2-0 after one inning.

Contreras went 2-for-3 while Beatty's first inning triple extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
