This Week
The Warriors remain home this weekend with a pair of CCAA match-ups against Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.

This Week's Opponents

Friday, Jan. 13, 7:30 p.m.
vs. Cal State L.A. GOLDEN EAGLES (9-3, 5-3 CCAA)

Series Notes: Cal State L.A. holds a 18-9 series advantage over Cal State Stanislaus. The Warriors are 7-6 at home against the Golden Eagles including home wins two out of last three seasons.

The Last Time We Met... was on Jan. 28, 2011, in Turlock. Reggie Jones's layup and two free throws gave the Warriors a four-point lead and ultimately a 56-55 win (L.A. made a three-pointer at the buzzer). Jones finished with 14 points.

About the Golden Eagles: Cal State L.A. split last weekend after losing to Sonoma State, 67-62, in OT on Saturday. L.A. had a 17-point lead with 5:41 to play … Quinton Watkins leads the team with 11.9 points per game … Cal State L.A. has the league's best defense (54.3 ppg, .357 FG% allowed).

Saturday, Jan. 14, 7:30 p.m.
vs. Cal State Dominguez HIlls TOROS (6-4, 5-3 CCAA)

Series Notes: The Warriors ended a seven-game skid against Cal State Dominguez Hills last January and are now 12-19 all-time against CSUDH. They are 6-6 at home vs. the Toros.

The Last Time We Met... was on Jan. 29, 2011, in Turlock. The Warriors upset No. 4 ranked Toros, 62-55, by holding the CSUDH  offense to 35 percent shooting. Dwight Jones had 15 and Reggie Jones scored 11 to lead the Warriors.

About the Toros: CSUDH scores a CCAA-low 62.7 points per game, but has the fourth-best defense (60.4 points allowed per game) … The Toros ended a five-game winning streak on Saturday with a 56-54 loss to Humboldt State … Wayne Andrews leads with 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Monstrous Weekend for Jones
CCAA scoring leader Reggie Jones added 46 points to his totals over the weekend as he continues to lead the conference in scoring (19.7 per game). Jones had a career-high with 31 points along with 14 rebounds (ties career-high). In the same game, he had personal bests in blocked shots and steals and was 14-for-17 from the free throw line. Jones has now scored in double digits 30 times in two seasons.

One More OT Thriller
For the second time this season, the Warriors needed overtime to finish off an opponent. This time UC San Diego was the victim as Cal State Stanislaus beat the Tritons, 78-72, on Friday in extra time. Reggie Jones' free throw with four seasons left sent the game into OT and the Warriors made 8 of 12 free throws in the final 81 seconds in OT for the victory. The Warriors are now 2-0 in overtime games.

Disappointing Finish Saturday
The Warriors were held without a field goal for seven-plus minutes as Cal State San Bernardino rallied from a 10-point deficit for a 75-72 win. The final Stanislaus field goal came at 7:44 and the Warriors went 0-for-8 and made just four free throws the rest of the way.

Off to Best Start
The 8-4 record is still the best after 12 games by any Cal State Stanislaus team during the CCAA era, which started in 1998. The 2002-03 team was 9-5 after 14 games.

Poor Shooting Weekend
Uncharacteristically, the Warriors did not shoot well last weekend. Stanislaus shot under 40 percent from the floor for the first (and second) time this season. Despite the win on Friday, the Warriors shot a season-low 29.5 percent and only slightly better Saturday night (37.5 percent). They were out-shot by opponents for just the second and third time this season. Prior to last weekend, the Warriors had averaged 47.4 percent shooting per game.

Living on the Line
A major contributing factor to the win on Friday was the Warriors' ability to get to the free throw line. Stanislaus tried a season-high 45 free throws and made a season-best 33 (Reggie Jones was 14-for-17). The Warriors were 14 for 18 in overtime to help them out-score UCSD 20-14 in OT for the win. For the season, the Warriors are now 233 for 308 at the line for a 75.6 average, which is second-best in the CCAA.

Sharp Shooters
Despite a bad shooting weekend, the Warriors are still the best three-point shooting team. Stanislaus leads the CCAA with a .397 average. In two games last weekend, the Warriors were 16-for-40.

Tight CCAA Race, As Usual
It might still be a little early in the season (each team still has at least 14 more CCAA games to play), but the CCAA race is shaping up to be a tight one again. Currently, the top eight teams are 2 1/2 games of each other in the standings.
