TURLOCK — The Warriors were held without a field goal for the final seven-plus minutes of the game as Cal State San Bernardino rallied to defeat Cal State Stanislaus, 75-72, Saturday night.

With a much-balanced offensive attack, Cal State Stanislaus was poised to go 2-0 for the weekend. However, the Warriors' offense stalled late in the second half as they fell to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Tre Brewer and Theron Laudermill each scored 16 points to lead the Coyotes. Cal State San Bernardino earned a split on the Central Valley trip and improved to 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA.

Cal State Stanislaus' final field goal was at 7:44 left to play on an and-one play by Ronnie Sawyer that gave Stanislaus a 10-point, 68-58 lead. The Warriors were 0-for their final eight attempts. After Reggie Jones made a pair of free throws at 6:06 left, the Warriors could not get on the scoreboard again until Jones made two more foul shots with 58 ticks remaining.

Jones finished with 15 points, but had just six points in the second half with one bucket and four free throws. Sawyer led Stanislaus with 16 points and Joe Malone scored 12 off the bench. Stanislaus shot 37.5 percent from the field for the game and was 5 of 16 from the arch.

The Warriors did go 25 for 32 from the free throw line with Jones making all seven of his attempts.

Cal State San Bernardino was 40 percent from the floor and nailed nine three pointers. Matt Wallace led with four treys and finished with 13 points.

Stanislaus held a 40-39 lead at the break and came out with a quick trey by Dan Daviess. With the score at 44-44, the Warriors went off on a 15-4 run for an 11-point lead with a Abdullah Dosu layup at 12:43.

However, that lead quickly disappeared with a CSUSB spurt that was capped by a Hakeem Washington three-pointer at 11:43 to cut the Stanislaus lead to four.

Still, the Warriors looked as if they were really for the challenge with solid defensive play led by Sam Marcus as they got the lead back up to eight on a Malone dunk. After a CSUSB free throw, Saywer drew a foul on a layup at 7:47 and converted on the three-point play — but that was Stanislaus' final bucket.

The Warriors are in the middle of a stretch when they are playing eight of 10 CCAA games at home. They will be home again next week when they host Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
