Box Score TURLOCK — In his final home game as a Warrior, in front of many friends, fans and family chanting M-V-P,
Reggie Jones scored a career-high 33 points as Cal State Stanislaus beat Cal State Monterey Bay, 96-85, Friday night.
With the CCAA tournament berth already secured with Thursday night's win, the Warriors were playing to see where they will finish in the final regular season standings -- and which corner of the State they would be traveling to on Tuesday.
The unknown destination became clearer at about 10:30 p.m. as Cal Poly Pomona beat Cal State Dominguez Hills with a half-court shot at the buzzer in the second overtime.
Unofficially, the Warriors finished seventh in the standings and will travel to Pomona for the first round game Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. The official tournament seeding announcement will be released by the CCAA Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
In the regular season finale in the Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena, Jones was again the man. He scored 18 of his points in the first half and carried the Warriors to a 38-29 lead at intermission.
With a great supporting cast in the second half, the Warriors jumped out to a 14-point lead in four minutes and extended their biggest lead to 21 at the 12:03 mark on senior
Dan Daviess' three-pointer.
While the game was never in doubt, Cal State Monterey Bay did make a game of it late, getting as close as eight points with 24 seconds remaining.
That's when Jones and some of the starters returned. Jones got fouled as usual and nailed two three throws to surpass his career-high.
Sam Marcus drilled four free throws in the final eight seconds to seal the win.
Jones was 9-for-9 from the charity stripe and was a prolific 10-for-13 from the floor. He also made four three-pointers, all in the first half. He scored in the 30s for the fourth time this year and will finish the season as the top scorer in the CCAA with a 18.8 points per game average.
Marcus finished with 16 points as he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and made all six free throws. Daviess ended up with 15 points and
Ronnie Sawyer had 14 points and five rebounds with five assists.
As a team, the Warriors shot 58.8 percent for the game and an amazing 73.9 percent (17-for-23) in the second half.
Brandon Ward scored 28 points to lead Cal State Monterey Bay as the Otters finished 3-23 overall and 2-20 in conference play.
