DJ Arellano and
Craig Beevers went 7-for-7 and drove in seven runs in game two to lead Cal State Stanislaus earne a split against 18th ranked Western Oregon on Saturday.
After falling in a heartbreaker, 10-8, in the opener, the Warriors responded with a solid offensive attack in the nightcap for a 10-7 win in seven inninings.
The Warriors, who also out-hit the Wolves in the first game, are now 3-6 overall heading into Sunday's series finale. Western Oregon is now 11-5.
Cal State Stanislaus put up a five-spot in the fourth inning in game two for a 9-2 lead. In the inning the Warriors scattered four hits, including two doubles with a run scoring single by
Andy Yingling, a RBI double by Beevers and a two-run hit by Arellano.
Beevers and Arellano had helped the Warriors go up 2-0 in the second with RBI singles. Beevers also doubled in another run in the third.
Leading 10-2, the Warriors however, had to hold-on in the seventh for the victory. WOU answered with five runs aided by four unearned runs in the frame. The Wolves had the game's tying run at the plate with two on and two outs until
Dustin Baisdon got a grounder to first to end the game.
In the first game, Western Oregon scored five times in a key seventh inning. Again only one of five runs were earned due to Stanislaus errors in the frame. That five-run seventh gave WOU a 9-5 lead and despite a three-run rally by the Warriors in the seventh, the Wolves held on for the game one win.
Beevers went 4-for-5 with three RBI in game one to finish the day 7-for-8 with three doubles and batted in six runs.
Jordan Long and Yingling both also had a solid day with four hits each in the twinbill.
In the doubleheader, the Warriors allowed 10 unearned runs with six total errors. That brought the season total to 24 errors and 28 unearned runs by the pitching staff in nine games.
