HILO, Hawaii — Jet-lag wasn't too much of a problem for the Cal State Stanislaus softball team as they split a doubleheader against Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday. The Warriors won game two 7-5 after dropping the first game 7-4.

After a long day of travels on Monday after concluding their own Best of the West Invitational, the Warriors didn't let being in paradise faze them. The Warriors jumped all over the Vulcans with four runs in the first three innings to start the twinbill. However a five-run third inning for Hilo sent Stanislaus to the losing side.

Cal State Stanislaus, however, rebounded with a strong win in game two of the doubleheader — one of three doubleheaders between these two teams this week.

Sarah Locarnini, batting ninth for the first time, went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to lead the offensive charge. She also scored three runs. Kiley Mendez drove in three scores to help freshman Natalie Rendon pick up her second win. Rendon pitched the first five innings and allowed four runs on five hits and improved to 2-2.

Jordan Flora, who homered in game one, tripled in her first at-bat in the nightcap and was intentionally walked twice and drew a third walk in the fifth inning.

Mendez, who also pitched the final 1 2/3 innings for her second save, drove in two runs with a two-out single in the fourth to cap the Warriors' three-run rally that put them ontop 5-1. They would add two more runs in the fifth with a Locarnini double that scored pinch-runner Brittany Balanesi. Locarnini later scored on an error by the UHH second baseman.

In the series opener, the Warriors wasted little time, jumping all over UHH starter Amber Waracka in the first. Waracka walked the first two Stanislaus batters, then Flora moved the runners over before Mendez's two-run single to score both Rachel Borges and Locarnini.

Flora belted her first homerun to right-center field in the third to make it 4-0.

But the Vulcans got to Warrior starter Brittani Weatherford in the third, tagging her for five runs that included homeruns by Angeline Cruz and Emily Green. UHH also scored the fifth run on a Stanislaus error.

At the end of the day, Mendez was the top Warrior performer. She went 3-for-4 with five runs batted in in two games. Mendez also pitched two shutout innings in game one before recording the save in the second game.

The Warriors will have Wednesday off on the big island before facing Hawaii Hilo twice on Thursday. The teams will play two more games on Friday.
