HAYWARD — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team could not fully recover from an earlier mercy-rule game as the Warriors dropped a pair of conference games at Cal State East Bay on Saturday.
The Warriors fell 10-1 in five innings in the opener before dropping a 2-1 decision in the nightcap as they dipped to 11-24 overall and 4-14 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Cal State East Bay even its records to 14-14 overall and is 6-12 in the CCAA.
Sarah Locarnini went 3-for-3 with two doubles in game one but the Pioneers scored five runs in the first inning en route to the five-inning mercy-rule win. CSUEB scored five unearned runs off Stanislaus starter
Brittani Weatherford, who threw four innings, gave up 12 hits and struck out five in the loss.
Stanislaus scored first in its first at-bats when Locarnini doubled, moved to third on a bunt and scored on a passed ball.
In the nightcap, the Warriors spoiled a solid start by freshman
Natalie Rendon. Offensively, despite out-hitting the Pionners, 7-4, the Warriors left nine runners on base. Rendon threw six innings allowed one earned run on just four hits in the tough loss. She also struck out four and walked one in the outing.
Lauren Liming and
Jordan Flora both doubled in the game for Stanislaus.
Liming scored the Warriors' only run in game two when she doubled to right centerfield and later scored on a
Katelyn Johnson single in the fourth inning.
Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State East Bay will wrap up the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Hayward. The series was moved back a day from Friday-Saturday due to weather.
