vs. Montana State Billings

TURLOCK — Natalie Rendon has not allowed a run in the tournament. The freshman hurler threw another shutout on Saturday to lead the Warriors to a 1-0 win over Montana State Billings.

The Warriors were blanked 8-0 in five innings by Saint Martin's earlier in the afternoon after a three-plus hour rain delay to go 1-1 on the second day of the Tournament of Champions presented by Mizuno.

Cal State Stanislaus finished pool play 2-3 with its bracket-play opponent and time for Sunday to be determined pending results of an early game scheduled for Sunday.

In the 1-0 win over Montana State Billings, Rendon recorded her second shutout in as starts at this tournament. She gave up five hits, struck out three and walked just one in seven innings. Rendon did not allow a Yellowjacket to past second base. During a stretch of the game she retired 12 of 13 batters.

The Warriors' lone run in the first was all they needed behind Rendon's performance. Brittani Weatherford singled in the first and advanced to second on an two-out single by Vanessa Delo Toro. Both runners moved up a bag on an illegal pitch then Weatherford scored on a RBI single by Kristan Burns.

Burns finished as the team's hitting leader with a 2-for-3 game. Sarah Locarnini also had two hits. The Warriors had a few other chances to tag on more runs with runners on base in every inninng except the second.

Against Saint Martin's, the surprising and up-start Saints had little trouble offensively. Morgan Kleem went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs in the first while Kelsie McGladrey hit a two-run homer in the third to lead SMU. Taviah Jenkins followed McGladrey's blast with a solo shot in the third as well.

Saint Martin's finished pool play 4-1 and will be one of four teams playing in the Gold Bracket games with a shot at winning the tournament.
