Central Washington defeats Stanislaus in consolation bracket game

TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors ended up in a consolation bracket game on Sunday at the Tournament of Champions presented by Mizuno before falling to Central Washington, 4-2.

The Warriors rallied for two runs in the seventh inning and left two runners on with one out before falling to 14-31 overall. Stanislaus finished the weekend tournament 2-4 in six games and will resume to regular season conference play next weekend when they host No. 16 Cal State Monterey Bay.

Jordan Flora went 2-for-3 to lead the Stanislaus offense, which was limited to four hits. Natalie Rendon gave up three runs -- her firsts this tournament in three starts -- on five hits in three innings.

Maria Gau threw seven innings, gave up two runs on four hits and struck out six for Central Washington for the win.

Trailing 4-0 in the seventh, Flora got the rally going with a leadoff single. A walk later, Brieanna Stone singled in Flora. Stanislaus added another run when Stone eventually scoring on a CWU error to make it 4-2. With just one out and runners at the corners, CWU's Gau got a strikeout and the groundout to end the game.

Central Washington's Bre Thomas and Carrina Wagner each had two hits. Wagner homered in the second and doubled in the fifth.
