Box Score 2 TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus softball team beat Humboldt State in a dominant fashion on Friday as the Warriors took game one of the series before the teams split.
The Warriors used a seven-run first inning to win the opener 10-2 in five innings. Then, Humboldt State had to hold-off late Stanislaus rallies for a 10-7 win in the nightcap.
A total of 29 runs were scored on 39 hits by the two teams. There were also a combined 23 walks with 18 issued by HSU pitchers on the day.
Cal State Stanislaus (16-41 overall) and Humboldt State (15-36) are both 7-27 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play heading into Saturday's season finale twinbill. First pitch is at 11 a.m., following the traditionally senior day festivities.
The win was Cal State Stanislaus' first over Humboldt State at Warrior Softball Field in nine CCAA games.
The Warriors jumped all over HSU starter Alyssa Castillo in the first inning of game one, using five hits, a couple of walks and three illegal pitches for the crooked number.
Kristan Burns had a two-run double,
Brittany Balanesi singled in a run and
Rachel Borges drove in two scores as the Warriors sent 10 batters to the plate for a 7-0 lead.
With the score at 9-2 after the Lumberjacks scored a run in the top of the fifth, the Warriors ended the contest with their 10th run in the home half of the inning.
Brittani Weatherford led off the inning with a double off the left field fence, then
Jordan Flora sored the game-winner with her double to center for the walk-off victory.
Borges finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Burns and Weatherford each had two hits as part of the 10-hit parade.
HSU's Castillo also walked eight batters and hit a batter in four innings of work.
In game two, the tide was turned with Humboldt State scoring early. With runs in the second through fourth innings, the Jacks built a 10-0 lead until the Warriors scored five runs in the fourth to get back in the game.
In the five-run fourth, the Warriors again sent 10 batters to the plate. Two walks, a bunt, an error scored two runs, then
Sarah Locarnini drove in two with a single up the middle. Weatherford capped the rally wih a single to right that scored Borges.
Stanislaus threatened in the fifth and sixth innings before coming up empty. However, CSUS did score twice in the seven to cut the deficit to three at 10-7 before a ground out to third with the bases loaded ended the game.
Stanislaus left 12 runners on base in the nightcap, thanks to nine more walks issued by HSU pitcher Jennifer Sizemore.
Locarnini went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Florda had two hits to lead the Warriors' offense.
